Simple Win98 question.
« on: August 25, 2000, 09:36:00 AM »
I've removed everything from my Start->Programs->Startup folder and still a bunch of programs start up on the background every time I turn on my PC (including the RealPlayer).

I realize those are controlled somewhere in the registry. How do I see which programs start up and disable them? Preferably through some kind of interface, not direct registry tinkering.
Is there a way in the Real Player to disable if starting by itself? Some programs do that.

 Thanks,
miko--

Go to startup, programs, accesories, system tools, system info, tools, system configuration utility, start up.  Uncheck all programs you dont want to start during the boot sequence.

Hit Start ---> Run and type msconfig

Also in C:/windows/system/Msconfig.exe

 Thanks a lot, guys.
I used that one a while ago, but even knowing about it I could not find it!

Ok, the whole bunch of programs are there.
Which ones I should not touch?

I have a 9k Gif of the startup programs like in Staga's post. How do I put it in my post?

 What is SysTray?

Posting images to UBB

There might be some problems when your PC is booting if you shut down some programs from config.exe.
Path shows which prog. it is so that can help you to decide what to leave.
I use ctrl-alt-del to close un-wanted progs. and leave only explorer and systray.
Do as I did with msconfig; Close 'em and look what happens

I also use RamBooster to clean some memory for AH.

Finnish sure seems to have a lot of words that start with "k".

By overclocking my brain (lots of coffee), I've decided that "Peruuta" means "No" and "Kayta" (my poor keyboard can't make those cool looking double dots) means "Cancel."

Anyway, back on topic, the bare minimum is "explorer" and "systray."  I was able to disable real player on startup within the program itself.  The setting is there somewhere.....
