I want to see if my ancient Abit BX6 (ver 1) will run at 133 MHz. Right now I have a Celeron 366 that overclocks to 550 with the clock set to 100 MHz and multiplier at 5.5. My plan is to install some PC133 DRAM, and set the CPU multiplier to 4.0 and the clock to 133 MHz. In theory, this should run the CPU at 532 MHz, slower than it is now, and test the chipset and RAM bus at 133 MHz.
(If it works, I plan to install a P3 866, as an interim speed up while I wait for the new stuff that is coming on the market soon.)
Question is: if it DOESN'T work, can I rule out the CPU?
