Well any good sports show is going to have their announcer audio separated from their natural sound. (IE the noise of the crowd.) So it should be the sound board operator lowing the natural sound and raising the announcer volume. That is unless they announcers are outside with the crowd in which the natural sound would overpower the mics anyway.

No mute button?

Anyone remember taking one of these to a match on a rainy Saturday afternoon?

Yeah I remember using one of those back in the 60's/70's when I went to a few games. they were annoying but not like those S. African things. Was watching highlights of a game and my wife who is blind asked "is that a nature show with all of those bees humming?"

Funny, 20 minutes ago, my wife was talking to me as I started the Argentina / Nigeria game, and she stopped and asked, "What is that horrible noise?"   :lol

That is what happened, at least according to a post game show on the first day. Supposedly the announcers were over powered by the horn noise.

Because of THIS stupid thing...

(Image removed from quote.)
It is quite simply the most annoying thing I have ever heard and gives me a headache.

Tried to watch S. Africa vs. Mexico yest. and just now tried watching Greece vs. S. Korea and it ain't gonna happen.

FIFA screwed the pooch when they opted to allow this in the 2010 World Cup and it is gonna cost them viewers.
(me for one)

I was looking forward to watching the WC this year but if I have to listen to that blaring drone of a noise i'm "out".

Maybe next World Cup.

I actually dont mind it during games, its just the other stuff like interviews outside the ground where its really annoying. took me a while to stop looking at the clock and waiting for the ref to blow for full time though (reminds me of last 5mins of matches where the fans want it over).

its always going to be strange for our friends from USA though because you guys are almost silent spectators. the rest of the world are very noisy when we support our teams, whether its singing and chanting in europe, airhorns in S america etc. we're even passionate and noisy supporting cricket! Found this somewhere:

- Vuvuzela 127 dB
- Air-horn 123.6 dB
- Samba drum 122.2 dB
- Referee whistle 121.8 dB
- 2 fans singing 121.6 dB
- Gas horn 121.4 dB
- Cowbell 114.9 dB
- Wooden rattle 108.2 dB
- Inflatable Fan-Sticks 99.1 dB

Can't imagine what its like being there. I read somewhere that the players can't even hear the referee whistle. That's pretty pathetic, if you ask me. I mean, its a given when something exciting happens on the field but this is just constant throughout the entire game.
