And in regards to the discussion on war and peace.

"those who are most opposed to war, are the ones who swear to end them"

War is not a neccessity however it is essential for world order, it is a side effect of a mixture of things. Anything from personal gain to the freedom of a nation is brought about by the very thing you are dead against.

Without war we would not be having this discussion, the whole world would be a collection of city states or a unified world government. War defines what we are, who we are and why we are. Without war the aeroplane would still be a biplane using wing warping, the computer would exist primatively and the automobile would be hand cranked, all things are brought about by the necessity to improve and in modern history military improvements have contributed more than any other to daily life.

Penguin as you are young and intelligent like myself you must realise that war however horrible is a neccessary evil. You can sit in denial and hope no one throws a punch, but the fact of the matter is we are all human from the peasant to the president. We get angry, sad, insulted, greedy and most of all, proud. All of these form collectively into war given the right spark and it is inevitable that this will happen.

Now you can sit here preaching about how war is  a fruitless excercise, or you can sign on to either become a young politician (whichever party you belong to) or join the ROTC in preperation TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.

"Human beings only have two ways to deal with one another: reason and force. If you want me to do something for you, you have a choice of either convincing me via argument, or force me to do your bidding under threat of force. Every human interaction falls into one of those two categories, without exception. Reason or force, that's it."

I won't post the whole quote because it was written concerning 2nd amendment issues, but I think its applicable to the direction this discussion has taken.

For those who care to read it you can find it here: http://www.terry-hall.org/reason_vs_force.htm

Your argument has one serious flaw: How could they have "killed, fought and died" for something they knew nothing of? The Holocaust wasn't a known fact until 1945 when the camps were overrun. The Allied leadership received reports of possible atrocities as early as 1941, but they were skeptical as to the scale of the crimes. The full horror of the Holocaust wasn't known until 1945.

So again, how could the Allied soldiers, airmen and sailors have "killed, fought and died" for something they knew nothing of?

they did know that Hitler was terrorizing Europe, brutalizing British POW's, and keeping a stranglehold on his own people, and that is an atrocity in itself
