In the startup menu, go to your VIDEO SETTINGS option, turn texture size down to 256 or 128 if that's not low enough.

Lower your resolution. Not as much of a drain, I prefer running at my native LCD resolution on my monitor, but that's only 1280x1024, so I won't benefit by running lower. If you're running at 1900x1080 or whatever, try lower resolutions.

Disable other skins.

Do NOT preload textures into memory. If your system is that burdened, you probably don't have the RAM for this.

In-game, go to your clipboard settings, graphics settings, and on the advanced tab DISABLE the detailed terrain, the water, everything except bump mapping (save that only if your system needs a couple extra FPS, it's necessary for flying and not hitting the ground). Click okay on that tab, so you are back at the graphics settings page again. Disable skins, weapons effects, GV effects, reduce your distance sliders. I would suggest hitting "Default" to get them to default first, then slide them towards "nearer" from wherever that position is.

Do all of that and it might look pretty bad (compared to what we have now) but it will run a LOT faster. That's probably about as streamlined as you can make the game. You CAN, however, streamline your windows as well but that is another thread entirely.

this was enough to make mine go from really crap unplayable to solid 60fps.
No thank you Turkish, I'm sweet enough.

Thanks for the info but the things that give me problems are the trees and the smoke from hangers ect. I was wondering if they could have a setting that made the trees and smoke look like the patch 2.17 I think that is what the old graphics were on or would this be a codeing error.

I would strongly suggest starting a thread in the technical support forum, listing what you've said here and giving us the stats on your PC, including:

DXDIAG with the hardware portion of the top (about the first 1/3 of the DXDIAG report)

how many processes you are running when idle at the windows desktop

which anti-virus or suite of software you use (some may have serious gaming impacts)

and the name of any programs that run all the time even if you don't use them (like Office Quicklaunch bar, for example)

I have decent FPS its just the trees and the smoke that make me lag(to much detail).

How much unnecessary junk is running on your computer at the same time you are playing?

I've "been there, done that."

My issue was heat.  I reset my CPU heatsink and I can play again but framerates hover between 10 and 30 mostly.

I can play with 30-40 FPS but no tanking anymore cause of large grouping of trees and hanger somke. I was wondering if they could implement a slider or a "low detail" thing for those to things.

I have a pretty old and slow system.  Look at all of the above suggestions, I have adjusted everything and seem to be able to play without framerates going in the tank (no pun intended).

I do have one issue, that seems to be related to my onboard sound rather than graphics card.  I cannot play smoothly with vertical sync enabled.  This doesn't seem to be your problem though, but one more thing you can add to your list of things to try.

Other things,

Graphic detail sliders all the way to the right
Turn off antialias
Turn off anistropic filtering
Disable other player skins
Make sure that you only use Ground detail level when needed (will eliminate some of the trees you see)  That will also make it harder to see distant vehicles.
I don't know how this affects the frames but I turn off downloading new skins in the hangar and I only have a hand full of skins in my folder.
