A 3D TV!??

I was at Best Buy yesterday buying Bad Company 2, and they had a 3D TV Demo set up. All Television shows would be played in 3D, and soon Video Games too! It was the coolest thing I had ever seen! I would love to play Call of Duty or AHII on it. 

The TV costs $2,500 they said.

That's rather inexpensive...but I have neither seen, nor heard of television programing in 3D. Most programs still have not made the transition to HD, let alone 3D.

Even if your TV can create the 3D effect, does not mean that you will see everything in 3D. The image has to be 3D at the source, and if it is it would not be enjoyable watching it in 2D (for everyone else).
I seen a show on TV ones in 3D, can't remember the name but all you needed were thous 3D glasses.

Actually there are already a couple 3D HD channels on satellite. One is sports the other I don't remember.

Chuck did a 3D episode the night after the Superbowl, although that used the old-fashioned red/blue glasses.

ESPN are showing quite a few of the present World Cup games in 3D.

Actually any stereo 3D stream shows up as perfectly normal 2D stream when the other channel is disabled. Kinda like listening to stereo, then shutting off the other speaker to listen in mono.

Anaglyph transmissions are a different story naturally, but the 3D tv's in question are not anaglyph.

Or maybe if they could shrink that HD screens and put them into goggles. I could use that for AH.


Until then, no thanks. Just a fad. But i guess there's plenty of gullible people to fall for it, just like in 50s and 60s.

Being legally blind in my right eye, I have to go "meh".  As long as the system requires some sort of goggles to be worn (over my current goggles as well.....that is just not comfortable), then it is a bother I will not have to endure.

 I've spent some time view the new 3d tv's and I'm not impressed.

 Seems there's 2 different systems sorta like beta/VHS or BR/HD discs 1 is passive and 1 is active and noncompatable.

 So you get an active set,seems the better quality,and then you need to equip everyone with a set of glasses so add another $800 to $1000 for them.

 On the upside,the new 3d tv's have brought the price of those outdate LED lit LCD screens way down in price and thats the only thing I like about the new tv's.......

Same here, but it's the left eye, for years when I'd go see something in 3D I was always thinking what the hell are people talking about I don't see anything coming at me, then it finally hit me that you need 2 eyes to see 3D.

There was a lot of hype around 3D in the industry a few months back when the TV's started shipping.  Which I suppose is a good thing, anything to keep the phones ringing and all.  I'm not too terribly impressed with it personally. Don't get me wrong it's a nifty effect but I don't plan on running out and upgrading anytime soon.


One thing to keep in mind is at least with Panasonic and Samsung you need to keep it all in the family.  You cannot use a Panasonic Blu-Ray player on a Samsung TV and visa versa.  The sequence that the alternating right and left images are played back in is different between the two sets.

And as mentioned already the glasses are going to run around $150-$200 a set can add up for a family, let alone if anyone wants to have guests over to watch their new fancy TV.  

Samsung will "upconvert" a 2D image to 3D but it's not going to be as convincing as true 3D content.  Sort of like a DVD player that upconverts to HD doesn't look as good as a HD/Blu-Ray disc.

I don't believe Panasonic has this feature currently.

TV might be meh in 3D... but you guys really need to try gaming. AH is primo in 3D (Skuzzy take note).
