Norton/McAfee are the worst anti-virus programs available.  They damage your computer in ways which can only be corrected, by a full wipe and reinstallation of the operating system.

I fully stand behind Skuzzy 100% with this statement.

Norton and McAfee are so insanely intrusive into the operating system, they can cause a huge host of problems that should never exist on a computer in the first place, and as Skuzzy mentioned, a full wipe is sometimes the only sure way of getting rid of them.

running a PC with no firewall in a DMZ is like keeping your life savings in a pile of cash on the street in front of your house.

forget about the DMZ.

use NAT and (optionally) SPI on your router. if you want max performance for AH, only run AH. no web browser, email client, chat progs, antivirus, firewall, anything. use FSAuto start and kill everything which isnt required to run the game (leaves 19 processes on my XP Pro). :aok

Not sure why such a powerful system should have any problems. Mine is much weaker and only my graphics card is a little better, it's a GTX-295 oc 1 Gb memory but my CPU is only a E7400 core 2 duo at 3.6 Ghz.  Here are my settings

Resolution 1600X1200X85 Hz
Object detail MAX
Grnd range Detail MAX
Detailed water MAX
Shadow texture size 8192
Anti aliasing 3/4
Max texture 1024
All shadows on
Frame rates Never below 75 even in the largest furball.

Oh always running NOD-32 in the background through a Netgear router (SPI) to a cable modem with cox cables slowest service available and never one disco.

I love Avast!!! Been a customer for years. Never have had a problem. IT's FREE!!! Not a resource hog, like Norton and Macafee. I also use Game Booster(Free) from IOBit, to shut down unneeded programs.
Good Luck!                                                                                         <S> Oz

Hi,

(Hope I am referring to this reply correctly using the "Quote" utility.)

Well, I am self taught, most things computer, so it just might be me how I am setup. And my fighter flying and lack of very good ACM might just be it, but it seems to me I go through the air sluggishly, even more so than 3 years ago on my old Dell.  I just got my CH Products trio today, so hopefully I can keep a better eyeball on the nme.  REN told me to never lose eye contact of the nme.

I am just about age 60 and gray cells and my memory are not what they were when I was 20.  Some of my college papers I wrote for final exam. rereading them years later, "I wrote that?"  LOL

I unplugged my other 2 ethernet cables out of my DSL router so I only run one for this game, seems to be better.  I have a new router from the phone company I will try to rig up solo just for Aces High.

I was dogfighting in WWI the other day and that guy was killing me, he still on dialup.  So, I doubt it is my DSL as culprit, but me. (spell check tool in here is pretty cool)

I have another Western Digital SATA, 1Tbyte hard drive I will reload Win 7, 64-bit onto, without the Norton. maybe go with Avast and see how it goes.  The current hard drive I will leave it intact and put it on a shelf in its anti-static bag.  I ordered my whole rig, piece by piece, through NewEgg, put it together and forgot to order the hard drives.  NewEgg to northeast USA, 3 day UPS ground rate, is airmail I get in 2 days.  NewEgg is a pleasure to do business with, so far.   http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136496

What firewall you guys use or does Avast come with one?  In game I will drop both.  The DSL router still has one.

Played around with the nVidia control panel and my frame rates are much better than 75 or my usual 60.  I definitely do better in the wirble, field gun, and shooting down fighters in bombers.

I saw this with WebTV, not everybody is setup the same as to the hardware end.  What works well for one guy, may or may not work for the next guy.  There are too many variables in the equation.

Been playing 3 years.  I think of quittin' this game but even dying a lot is more fun than most flight sims out there.  I'm not going anywhere!  I am definitely hooked.  My fighter kills are doing a little better.

Why do I need to run shadows?  I don't.  Anti-aliasing I turn off.  Resolution is native 24" single LCD at 1920 x 1080. I did set up lower resolution at the same ratio whatever it was, but I did not see much difference. Depending what I am doing, dictates how I setup the rest of the graphics at the time.

I recalibrate x, y, z, every time I come into the game, seems to help move better, die 'bout the same.

Thanks for you guys' input.  Critiquing is great.
