Hat switches are seen as button presses.

Thanks for the reply ...................

Dug out an an old CH throttle. When everything is  plugged in, the [Game Controller Config settings in XP ] take out the hat switches, (stick is also analog)  tried different configs no help, thought maybe the sound card was maxed out on resources. (joystick with 2 hats, Ch throttle and CH rudder pedals) . Legacy HOTAS  :old: Seems everything works but no hats , hence the question.

That's a different issue I think. I meant they are seen as button presses rather than as axis.

I think the old CH analog sticks buttons were keyboard emulator switches and had to be programmed using the ch software "speedKeys" which was a DOS program I think. There use to be a work around on the CH BBS

The buttons on the old legacy analog CH sticks use by default DirectInput button inputs (B0, B1, B2, etc.) and when programmed with Speed keys, the programmable devices then become in essence keyboard emulators (which is why they required a KB pass over cable).  Unfortunately, Speed Keys only works in W95/98/ME and will not work in WinXP/Vista/7.  However, if you create a dual boot partition that lets you boot into DOS, you can run the old DOS programming software PTSETUP and program your stick and reboot and when it boots into WinXP/Vista/7, the template should still be loaded into your analog CH devices.

You may be able to find some utilities over at CH-Hangars.com that might help you out in programming your legacy analog CH device.

BAH ..............simple fix,  :eek:small micro switch at the base of joystick ...........everything works as advertised, and you are right Fugitive to get throttle working with key  asignments you have to jump start the computer into DOS first with simple boot disk, then punch in the button asignments with a simple CH program that runs on a floppy or stick, reboot and XP is never the wiser, programing stays in the throttle even after reboot, not sure who fiqured that out but very slick . Kinda kewl you can still have an Analog HOTAS on todays machines for a fractions of what a USB HOTAS cost, I know the precision is not there as with the digital sticks but still nice.

Anyone needing a hand setting up some old dusty analog stuff just give me a shout and I will offer any insight I may have retained

I thought it was the Joysticks that held the infromation.. I remember the CH Fightr Stick gameport model had a 2 MB memory module in it... so once uploaded to the stick it stayed there until one removed it / over wrote it, did a REBOOT of the stick ( Ack Ack taught me they did away with the REBOOT feature when CH went to USB ).....

I too, have all the old DOS, speedkeys, JSETUP, etc legacy/DOS prgrams if anyone needs any of them.......

I used my CH HOTAS analog stuff up until around August of 2008 and then gave them all away to AH Players in need ( had "3" complete CH HOTAS setups analog/gameport type )...... only recall one person saying they was unable to get gameport CH stuff to work on winXP or newer OS's.....

I have found CH Manager is just as programmable as speed Keys was...... just got to RTFM  :D ........ although AH works just fine with the newer USB stuff, without using CH's Control Manager being loaded up and running in the back ground

also, as long as you can keymap your old analog CH stuff using speedkeys or boot to DOS and use the DOS batch file/program thingy ( this can be found at CH Hangars forums )  you can use gameport to USB adapters and use your controllers in Aces high just the way you always did in other sims.... least I have done this before on one of my PC's that had no gameport on it........

hope this helps...
