I don't really have a typical year yet since I'm really just getting back into fishing again since I was a kid. Like you Vudak my kayak will open up a whole new realm of fishing to me. I plan on starting out fishing for bass on Lake Alice ( a reservoir of Oak Orchard river) as soon as we have a decent weekend. It's calm, quiet and I know it so I can get use to the kayak. After that I plan on using the kayak to fish/explore the many lakes we have around here for bass, pike, walleye and panfish.
I also have a 19' bowrider that I dock on Lake Ontario. It is mainly a family fun boat, but I do have downriggers on it and I have become addicted to trolling for salmon/trout. I have some work to get done on the boat, some myself and some I have to take to a mechanic. But I hope to have it in the water by the end of April. Maybe try for brown trout if they still up shallow. If not I was planning on trying for Lake trout until the salmon show up in force. Once they do I will most likely fishing for them on any weekend day they lake isn't too wavy for my boat. When the lake won't cooperate( which can be all too frequent) I'll head out with the kayak.
Lastly I am going to the OBX in July and when there I usually try to surf fish. Only time I caught fish was three years ago. Caught some small sharks (blacktip I think??), croaker and a pompano. Had only two good days of fishing before the waves became too much for me to keep my sinker out there. Last two years hurricanes interfered. Two years ago, two passed off shore far enough away that the weather was fine but the waves were just too crazy to fish. Last year Hurricane Earl drove us out after only two full days.
This year we are going in July though so hopefully no hurricanes and I can get some good surf fishing in. Also since getting a kayak I have been looking into going on a guided kayak fishing trip (4 1/2 hours). You can go out fishing in either the sound or the ocean. I figured it would be a good learning experience ( and fun) so I can bring my own kayak down and fish from it in the future, if not possibly this year.
I usually try to fish at least once each weekend on the summer and a couple nights each week. Will most likely also take a week off in August to really go after the salmon when they start stacking up. Will fish the big lake until late Sept., but hopefully with the kayak I will be able to keep fishing into Nov.

Freaking fishing is starting to invade my cabin-fevered mind so much that I'm only thinking of naked women every 1.7 secs instead of the normal 1.2.
