Some day I'm coming out there and going sturgeon fishing.  Does a guy have to have a jet boat, or will a deep-V with a rock hopper be sufficient?

You can do it out of a rowboat if you really want to. Mostly need a stable platform and enough power to maneuver/get back up river since you drift/get towed pretty quickly while you're fighting it. This was an 11' fish off of a 22' aluminum Lund. Guide friends boss took us out. Gave him a couple $ for all day. He provided the gear, beer, food, and know how. Definitely going to do it again. I'll be back in AK during this season though.

All I want for Christmas is a 40" northern.  Gonna go give er the ol' college try, hopefully the ice doesn't melt out from under me since it's 41 out right now :(.

Tec, we have 40" fish galore. Not a ton of Northerns, but a ton of musky 40plus.
Landing is overrated.

here in vermont I nail crappie and pickerel on silver kastmasters.  Tried catfishin in the connecticut river but all I could catch was waterdogs(mudpuppies).  Have caught eels on worms.  Where I grew up in colorado we used to fish behind the pueblo resivoir just out of the spillway, used to catch channel cats around 20- 30 lbs on minnows.  If anyone is up here in vt or nh and has any good cat holes would be interested.

I was going to go tonight . Try my luck on some channel cat's out of the spillway's but my help got girl's on his mind too much to study a fish . I like to get into some of those 20 Pound's cat's grunt' grunt' . Went and looked at the river today and it's just right too but with my boat I almost have to have two people to run it but 600 Pound's a weekend is wroth the trip .

Was it 40 inch? Using a rapala for jigging huh. You should have enough ice now. Haven't checked, have to think the main channel is still open for walleye fishing.

Haha no, not 40.  Plenty of ice in most places, they started driving on the lake finally, and the channel started to lock up after those few real cold days.
