Some interesting "fishing" potential off our coast:

http://www.royalgazette.com/article/20130219/NEWS/702189908

16ft Great White weighing 3,400lbs being tracked after it was tagged off Cape Cod.  They suspect it is after schools of tuna off the reef line.....which is an even better reason to go fishing.  :)

Funny you posted this, we are talking about it on another forum I belong to They named her Mary Lee

Some pics of her "roaming"

You can follow her here    http://sharks-ocearch.verite.com/

I saw her name, and it reminded me of Quint from the movie Jaws little poem:

"Here lies the body of Mary Lee; died at the age of a hundred and three. For fifteen years she kept her virginity; not a bad record for this vicinity."  :lol

Been doing pretty good on the Walleyes over the last couple weeks, but due to a bunch of snow and rain last week things are starting to get a bit sketchy at my primary spot.

It's hard to make out with this crappy picture, but those few blue pixels on the chunk of ice is one of two kayaks, and there are two guys standing on that chunk of ice fishing as it floats down the river.  Not something you see every day for sure, but it reminds me of the stories my step dad tells about how his dad and grandpa used to go out to the edge of the scour hole beneath the dam and and use their spuds to break off a chunk.  They would float down and jig until they hit the ice at the downstream end of the hole then get off and do it again.  Also a lot of guys out lately pushing boats across the ice to get to open water.

Decided to go out to a Plan B spot tonight, left home at 6, was back by 8.  A good 15" of ice, no walleyes or saugers, but just as I got done setting up my spread a tipup popped and had this on the end.

Probably the best one of the year for me and first Perch I've ever bothered to weigh, 1lb 2oz and released to drop her eggs.

It's hard to believe that March 17th last year I was catching Bass on topwaters, winter just doesn't want to let go this year.
To each their pwn.

Good luck sir  :aok :aok

Hope you have a better day then we did....We kicked off Spring Striper season 2013 today....My buddies boat (the one i posted pics of earlier that got banged up during Hurr. Sandy) is all fixed up and was ready to roll......the Amanda Jean rides again!!!!!!

Left the dock about 6am this morning......the bay was a bit snotty 5ft waves about 6 seconds apart...winds were kicked up a bit (25mph) but about an hour into the ride, the wind died down and the bay turned to glass.....I mean it looked like i could have gotten out of the boat and skated on it....absolutely beautiful day

We marked a few on the Lowrance, and started smashing clams to run a chum slick...couldnt buy a bite. We fished hard all day but no hook ups. Still a bit cold, water was about 45degrees.....Once it hits about 52+ the bite will turn on.

Tell ya the truth, i didnt care...was nice to be out, Hearing those twin CATS roaring thru the waves. Sitting on the deck telling fishing stories, with a crew of good people, was all i needed to get re-energized after a long winter.

Crappy Bass lake plus wildly (VERY strange) fluctuating water temps throughout a mostly stable day equated to zero fish caught. Our region didn't even send all the teams it could've. If a team caught one keeper, they advanced.

Also turns out I am allergic to crawfish.... especially highly concentrated attractant of said organism.  :lol

All in all, can't complain. The weather was gorgeous.

Thank God Crappie and Bass haven't reached spawn yet, the warm weather is yet to arrive.

Tight lines, everybody!

Had an awesome evening recently. Went out looking for snapper, had soft baits on a jig head plus a line with plain squid.

A bunch of birds come in chasing bait fish, I notice there are other splashes - a big school of kahawai (aka Australian Salmon... not related to salmon in any way).

I flick my softbait out towards the chop and pretty quickly hook up.

Not me but these are the fish (very fun fights on light tackle):

Spent two hours and landed maybe a dozen fish (6lb - 8lb in size) full of fight - had an absolute ball :D   . Took 6 home for dinner and friends, released the rest.

bought my license today and went out with the famdamily.  Got skunked but my 3 year old daughter had a blast reeling her pole in.  I was trying to tell her that she should let it sit but nope, had to reel it in and cast it out, needless to say my thumb is tired :lol
