Gents, this year I won't be doing as much fishing as normal. In February, the man who took me fishing and always had my back passed away from a short battle with cancer. He left behind a damn good boat and a vehicle to pull it with, so I expect to be back on the water once the thought of taking that aluminum beauty out doesn't hurt so much. I'm posting this for all dads and sons- go fishing. Take that excursion to Canada you've always talked about or go on that guided trip a couple hours away. I don't mean to sour the thread at all, but I feel like it's something that has to be said.

So, I want to just tell you all to go wet some lines and slay em. Thanks for keeping this thread going for so long- it speaks testament to how much we love our sport. Thanks, all. <S>

I'll be going fishing as soon as I get my bait casting reels back from the place that is fixing/cleaning/lubing them.

Very sorry to hear FB........Im going thru something similar at the moment. My best friend, partner in crime (has been for 30yrs) was injured last month and is currently in a rehab facillity....unable to walk....unable to use his hands...unable to do most everything basically paralyzed...just laying in bed fighting like hell to to be able function.  .... Breaks my heart...hes my fishing buddie...and we have been hunting together since we were 12yrs old...to the point that if were not hunting together...were texting each other all day finding out how the other is doing  If were not hunting or fishing, hes at my house, or i at his every weekend....having a few beers and shooting the breeze....hes 40 now, house, kid, mortgage etc etc......Guy is so full of life it pisses me off to no end seeing him like this..... (hes the kind of friend that if i called him and asked him to help me bury a body....the only question he would ask would be which shovel should he bring)  Being on the water this year...or in the woods isnt gonna be the same...But to tell ya the truth, any time i get to get out, will most likely be spent helping him in rehab, or at his house helping his family.

Your in my familys thoughts and prayers sir  :salute

Bumped.    Starting it get the spring jitters.  :x.     Anyone been out in the water?

A few weeks ago went down to San Diego and fished Barrett Lake, caught 25 bass and 75 crappie.  If you ever get to San Diego, I highly recommend fishing Barrett Lake.  It's catch and release but it's filled with bass and my 25 catch was small compared to some others on the lake that were just reeling them in as soon as the lures hit the water.  Crappie and sunfish are also plentiful and you can keep those catches.

Sorry to hear about your loss fbWldcat.

Getting the bass boat ready today, hopefully I'll be able to get out next weekend. The ice is finally out.  :x

You would get the neatest result with a sewing machine, making a patch like the one visible above the tear. I'd start by sewing zig-zag across the tears to bind the edges together. Then I'd sew the patch like the one above but instead of just attaching the edges I'd also run zig-zag across the patch to strengthen the tear. As for the thread, use similar thickness to those used. Synthetic or preshrunk thread is highly recommended for use in wet conditions.

A local shoe- or sailmaker should have both the thread and machinery needed, also tarpaulin and awning makers might be able to help. If you want to do it yourself, make sure your sewing machine is strong enough for the job. You'd have to buy thicker needles, too. Take a sample of the canvas with you, a handicraft shop should be able to help with the materials and equipment.

I've got an older system by today's standards that still runs the game well by my standards.

Ill be sewing myself by hand.......thankfully i have the same canvas (scraps) so material is not an issue....the actual thread is, just not sure what to use

http://www.coatsindustrial.com/en/products-applications/technical-sewing/outdoor-goods-and-sports-equipment/canvas gives some information of suitable threads. As said, use something that won't shrink. From the Coats' site I noticed another thing to consider: UV durability. Whether you should use pure cotton or fully synthetic or something in between shouldn't really matter. If you want to know what type has been used in your boat cover, simply put it on fire. If the yarn burns nicely into ashes, it's basically cotton. If it makes a hard solid lump at the end, it's synthetic. A brittle lump indicates semi-synthetic. A synthetic yarn will get stiff if you roast it over fire and then let it cool down because of the fibres melting together. They also smell different when burned.

just came across this one, some of the most wide open tuna bites i've seen involved thunderstorms, which to me is odd given that "they" also say pelagic activity depresses during low pressure systems  :headscratch:

We got a little wet
