You're allowed to fish in England?  :headscratch:

So I take the boat out to Lake Perris, with a friend for a days fishing. Get there, get launched - things are looking good, light breeze throwing some small waves on the water, only 7 boats in total on the lake. Some guy on the launch ramp has forgotten his worm bag, sort him out with a couple of bags of plastic's - good deed for the day done.

We're bobbing around, throwing some top waters, drop shot, texas rigged craw's all the normal stuff - then the frustration started - every single bite I could get going, I missed every single damn fish. Got hit hard near the end of the dam, struck into it, looked at Rob, fish on - ping, fish off. We move to a cove I like fishing, as its got a drop off into deeper water, and can generally always grab a couple there - got hit and hit hard, fish on, rod's curved big time, I've got a grin on my face (hoping its a big striper) -  ping, fish off.

After a morning of those, I'm getting annoyed with myself - looked at Rob, "next fish that comes off, I'm going in and grabbing it by its face and asking it what the hell, just take the damn bait already". Get hit, fish on - ping, fish off.

Out of 14 bites, landed exactly zero - thats none, nada, zilch - not a single fish. That said, great day on the water, very little traffic, the people we did see were all friendly and we're swapping advice/stories etc. Was good to get out, if frustrating that my slow donut couldnt quite get em to stayed hooked up.

I'd see if you could rig up a stinger hook, sounds like they are striking it a little short, stinger will cure that right up.

That said, I'm sure it was better than being at work  :D

Son and I went out to the spillway this past Saturday. Not a bite to be had. Water temps are still to cold here in PA. Water was 39degrees.  We were shore bound, the boat is in the shop for its yearly checkup, hope to have it back this weekend.Once we get To 45/50 degrees the bite will be on.

Headed out on the 22nd on a 24hr Cod trip, and then May 3rd for Stripers  :aok

For all the whining I did above, was a great day to be out. Had my work hours changed (again) so now I have Monday off - which works real well with my fishing partner Rob.

Did try a stinger hook as well, still missed em lol...........figured out why on the drop shot, was hooking to deep into the plastic - we'll find out Mon 27th if that makes a difference.

Good luck on your trips Bailey - may you have beautiful weather, and bag a truck load.

Flench you sure know how to make my mouth water.

Wurz were you fishing for crappie to? Crappies can be either incredibly aggressive or very light strikers. I guess like any other fish. But Ive had them hit big lures like Rapalas while trolling for walleye, lures almost as big as them. Heres a bunch we caught while trolling for stripers in Arkansas back in, oh, 'bout '90. Im the guy on the left, when I was young and fleet, and the guy in the middle is my partner who I tragically lost in 2002 to a heart attack. Ronnie loved fishing crappie and we hit them like that all week. If theres any better eating Ive yet to find it.

We're fishermen, when we miss a fish we whine.....its genetics. I still to this day moan about a monster Musky that I missed. He hit an old balsa Rapala, I didn't set the hook well (thought I as snagged on a tree, he was just dead weight) well when he got to the boat his head came out of the water really slow (ever see vid of a navy seal rising out of the water? Yea it was like that)  well he looked at the boat, opened his mouth and the lure just floated to the surface, he had it sidewaise in his teeth. He disappeared as slowly as he rose. I swear to this day I saw him flip me the fin (bird)

My saltwater buddie to this day enjoys telling people about the striper that spooled all the line off my reel. Went out with him the day after and he rigged up one of his tuna poles and put in his fighting chair for me....which was fine except we were going flounder fishing.....the smartazz.

Agree Rich, for me it's a toss up between crappie and walleye (but I think some crispy breaded crappie filets, some fries and an ice cold beer edges out all)

Hey Rich, nah, was fishing for bass/striped bass - Perris has some real big fish in it - biggest striper I've seen was over 20 pound and the lake record for LMB is over 18 pound lol....

Generally the LMB bite real sneaky like, very little to feel - the striper on the other hand, yeah, they rip the rod round.

Stripers remind me of King Salmon, aka "chinook". Getting a big striper on is a thrill and 1/2. Even a 8 or 10 lb "wiper" is a blast. Some truly great fishery's down south. Towards the end I was taking more fishing vacations south then I did north. BTW we caught crappie like that all week and not one was on live bait. I rigged small bass plugs to run off of planers boards, even ran dipsys and down riggers, and caught crappie and wipers all week.

It was unusual for me to use live bait.
