How did that Hammerhead taste? You took it to eat it right?
They're casting their bait over there, see?

No. she was doing a photo op. It's actually illegal to harvest a great hammerhead. We pulled her in, snapped some pics, got her back in and towed her a bit to revive her. She was 9.75 ft about 600-700 pounds. My boss had a replica mount made.

Good, I believe you probably knew I was asking because they taste like crap. I've never tried their meat, but I've heard that said enough. I was hoping it wasn't harvested just for the sake of someone's pride.  :aok

In CA/Mex waters I don't know of any restriction on harvesting them other than people are given the weekly arsehat award on bdoutdoors/bloodydecks. I love to see them on my tuna trips, but they are somewhat uncommon unless you surfers without their wetsuits (70+ deg surface temp,) they often are not around the bite zone off San Diego into Mex waters. We do regularly see mako and blues of course.

It's illegal to harvest them in Florida waters, that was a Miami trip. About the only legal shark to harvest I believe are short fin mako. I don't harvest sharks. Main reason I hate the taste and secondly the are important for ocean balance. Great hammerheads are fairly common in Florida, they love to eat tarpon from what I have gathered.

And thus why I inquired. Mako and thresher however are quite tasty, but I haven't eaten it in a very long time and won't anymore for the aforementioned reason(s).  :aok
