After launching an F4U-1A that was set afire by the ack of an enemy cv, dying, and returning the tower, I could see but not hear the 8" guns being fired from our cruiser as I was in the CV Conning room. Once I entered one of the 8 inch guns on the cruiser, I could hear the other gun(s) being fired - although I'm not certain whether I heard it before or only after I had fired the one I was in. When I exited back to the CV Conning room, I continued to hear it/them as you'd expect.
(I don't know if any other manned guns were being fired or not, but I suspect not. No enemy aircraft were near and no auto guns were firing at the time. I believe that the only gun being fired was one or possibly both of the forward facing 8" on the cruiser - both were occupied.)
Not a show stopper by any means (even assuming it wasn't simply a fluke), but I thought I'd mention it.
