Okay, now my next upgrade is my chip, going from PIII 550 to a PIII 800 coppermine, and a friend is selling it to me for $75 bucks...I need a new MB, and am looking at this one:

ASUS CUV-4X-E

$106 on Pricewatch...comments on this MB or others?

Why not get a slotket adaptor to mate the flip chip to your current mobo Rip?

"Slotket" is a adapter between FCPGA processors like most of P3s and Slot 1 mobos. Costs maybe 20$.

Just found out that this won't work, well, it will work, but my MB still dictates the chip speed, which is limited to 733...ie it will not take advantage of the full capacity within the 800 coppermine.

Rip, chances are there is a BIOS update for your mobo which will allow it to recognize the faster processor. Check the manufacturers site.

Update your bios and try the slocket adapter.  If it doesn't work, you are only out $20.

(Oh, and BTW, don't buy a P4.  That is unless you *like* tossing away more money to get a slower processor than the Athlon.   )

Rip...I've got a slocket adapter here that you're welcome to have if ya want it.  I bought it, and then decided to buy a new motherboard anyway.  If you want it, email me with your address and I'll ship it off to ya.

Rip-make sure you check out all the read-mes before you do it. Also, whatever you do, don't reset or turn off power while you are flashing your BIOS. You could end up with a big hunk of worthless circuits   If you have any questions, you can email me and I'll try to help.
