Jousting Arena
« on: August 16, 2010, 12:10:36 PM »
How about a jousting arena?  This arena will separate the skilled from the unskilled.  To survive in here you will have to not only be good, you will have to be great.  The arena will be strictly for jousting.  I propose that each pilot air start at 5k and fly directly at the other pilot.  I propose that 30k tall walls are constructed in the arena and they are placed 300 yards apart thereby forcing a genuine joust.  When the two pilots meet they will fire at each other.  Only one pass will be made and the player with the least amount of damage after the joust will be the winner.  If both pilots take on critical damage then the first pilot to hit the ground loses.  For tie breakers, films can be reviewed and bonus points can be awarded for the fewest turns taken during flight, the fastest merge speed, and holding down the trigger the longest.  Points will be deducted if a white collision message is received with no orange collision message.  I know the rules are kind of complicated but we will get the details sorted out eventually, after the community as a whole gets the hang of it.  I proposed that I be the initial CM for the arena and I will add others to the team as is warranted and based on their merit as jousters.  As the CM, I will be available to review the films for any disagreements.  I will take my job very seriously.

Just food for thought, but in the future, I can run a bracket like Bald Eagle’s ACM bracket for individual jousting competitions.  We can also have an SJL (Squad Jousting League) where the squad that wins will be the one with the most planes flying after the joust.  It will be a requirement that if you participate in the SJL that you place your squad’s record in your signature.  Just some thoughts for the future as this awesome arena concept matures...

Please discuss….   :salute

Curious, what brought this on SunBat?  :headscratch:

I'd do it.   Maybe I can go 2-0 vs Mensa's 262 in a Spit 1?   I'm currently 1-0 in the DA with him.

Nothing better than sending high ENY rides to the tower in a Spit 1.

Actually, you know what?  That might be kind of fun..

Do this.. make your own map... submit it for a weekly special event sort of thing, and you can CM it.

For it to be fair though, collisions would have to be turned off altogether, as lag varies so much from one person to another.

I think it is a fantastic idea.  Lets see who the best jouster in the game is.

King of the Joust
Squad Jousting League
Tri Annual Jousting Tournaments

The options are endless.

Curious, what brought this on SunBat?  :headscratch:

I firmly believe that there is skill in the joust and the great jousters always have to share their glory with at least one other person.  The community continually tries to assign honor to as many pilots as possible for a successful joust by including twice as many pilots in a successful AJM (Aerial Jousting Maneuver) than should truly receive credit.  For years we have heard that “it takes two to HO”.  This is not fair to the better jouster.  He won; he/she shouldn’t have to share their glory with anyone.  I want the true masterful jousters to rise to the top, and I don’t want anyone to share the honor.  This arena will serve to accomplish this goal.

Who said anything about a HO?   :headscratch:

Jousting is not HOing.  There is a huge difference.

A few days ago ink dove on someone's 262 in an A6M2...caught him, stayed with him and killed him. He was freaking out on channel hehe.

Ok so I'll bite, based on the OP, how is a single pass head on firing on each other not a HO?
