M4-75 coax and hit percentage
« on: August 20, 2010, 06:15:19 AM »
Im not sure if the turret coax or hull gun is supposed to work on objects ('work' meaning for hit percentage) but when I tested the M4-75 the hit percentage for vehicles against air goes down when I coax is used to shoot field objects or town objects. I am pretty sure I tested this before with the Sdkfz and it worked fine. Has it changed... is it a bug with the M4...?

Although I do not think it counts toward your hit percentage, I do believe they count toward your damage total. Yes they do work on objects as I usually will use the coax from my tank to help take down buildings, ack guns, and planes flying low enough. In US Army tanker terms, (yes I was heavy support and was with tanks all the time), the coax in game is the MG you can fire while in position 2 looking through the main gun sights.  It also comes in handy to find range to target and if a tank is too close, to ensure it is friendly... Coax does not kill shoot you.  I have used it on tanks as well while waiting for the main round to reload and you can see the damage on the other tank in the form of little chunks flying off.  Will the .50 cal kill another tank, no, but it will an M3, jeep, and blow tires in the M8.  :salute

Thats not the question. The question is why is it that it negatively effects your hit percentage? If you use it to range vehicles its a hit on a tank or if you use it to speed the take down of a building or hangar or what have you why does it negatively effect hit percentage? I dont think it has always been like that and so the question or if you will - bug report.

How are you able to tell if it is effecting your hit percentage either positive or negative? If it is, then I need to quit shooting coax at the passing planes.  :salute

I believe hitting planes is the only way it will work. But to answer your question... check score and leave it open. Go shoot something without missing. Check score again. If you shoot at buildings it goes down which is odd because I think tanks should shoot tanks and destoy buildings and not airplanes.

Don't even get me started on that. :D

Same here. I'll shoot the coax, pintil and even the hull gun at nearby planes.

A couple corrections here.
The coax gun DOES killshoot you, but it doesn't have the ability to cause damage to a tank in armored areas. So, shooting a friendly tank in the armor nets 0 damage and doesn't harm you, but spraying the vulnerable parts of his track just might remove your own.
The chunks flying off an opposing tank don't necessarily mean you are damaging it. If you have a tiny hit sprite, you are dealing absolutely zero damage (that goes for ANY round in the game, including main gun shells). If you have a larger hit sprite, sometimes accompanied by gray smoke, you are dealing damage. However, the only point that an MG can generally deal said damage is on the tracks and it takes quite a bit of damage to destroy one of them.
The .50 cal will kill another tank, if fired into the dashboard from inside said tank.

That I am aware of, I was speaking of a quick 1-3 rnd burst rather than shooting a main round at it. Soon as I hear it hit my tank I know not to shoot the main round at the other tank. Also I prefer to use a short burst because if it is an NME GV, they are not able to pinpoint my position.  :salute

As far as shooting at places, pintle gunners will fire at planes attacking them. As far as the main gun, it is not a question of whether or not there is a record of it happening historically, if you fly at a low enough attack angle to which your plane comes in contact with a main round, guess what, you dead. No ifs, ands, or buts. As long as the movement of the main gun is properly modeled to the correct maximum elevations, there is no argument. I step off of the soapbox.  :salute  :bolt:
