I got a couple screen shots of this event about 30 showing just how big this mission was. For a moment the column of the massive raid fighters and bombers was 75miles long. Check out the images in the photo gallery at. www.777thfg.webs.com Great MoM 96Delta and to everyone who help make it.

Well, those screenshots confirm that it was a pair of Rook CVs trying to screw with the interceptors and protect the buff's initial entry into Knight airspace. Next time we'll have to sink those before intercepting.

Both of those CV's were in about the possition I'd expect if they had either just taken the base, were skirting the coast to avoid detection, or getting in possition for an attack. I'd give the rooks the BOTD on this one.

Sorry, yeah, not accusing anyone of anything, more tongue-in-cheek. There was a huge fight going on in the area and I'm sure these were there supporting it, as there was also a Knight CV or two in the area. This was more something not really considered by the interceptors, and needs to be factored in next time. We lost at least one to the ack, and I took a ping trying to get out of it. If we'd been grouped like we should have been, it could have been much worse and been pretty detrimental to the actual MoM.

Just a heads-up.

I've already begun work on the next [MoM] and
it's going to be more than just another bomber raid.

The next mission will be a historical recreation of the
8th Air Force's second raid on Schweinfurt, Germany
that occured on Thursday, October 14, 1943, a date
that would forever become known as "Black Thursday".

This coming October 14th, 2010 will mark the 67th Anniversary of
what has been called "the most savage air battle ever fought"
so the next [MoM] will be two days earlier, on Tuesday, October 12
to remember and honor the brave men who fought and those who
died during that epic battle.

Obviously, I'm going to need a great many bomber pilots
to pull this off.  Just as important, opposition aircraft should be
Luftwaffe aircraft.  This isn't just a mission guys, we're trying
to commemorate something solemn so please stick to the theme
when selecting your aircraft.

I've been struggling with that.
Most of the losses during that mission were attributable
to ack and air-to-air rockets.  I'm sure that the opposition will
be launching 262's and Ta152's to counter the strike
so I figure that should create the same kind of threat
that the rockets and ack did in '43.

But to balance that, I'll probably use late war jugs.
All that accompanied the 2nd raid on Schweinfurt were
P-47D's so to balance it I'll likely use the P-47M's.
If I were to use, say the D-40, we would be completely
outclassed by the 152s and 262s so I see no other choice.

AVA arena would be fantastic for this, that way only time era planes could be used(enabled) as well as a map that's two sided (2 countries) Allied gets a certain plane set and the same for Axis, I'm sure both countries that are opposing the raid would just fly Axis planes, What's your thoughts?

Just a thought.

but I believe that many of the pilots who participate
in MoM do so because they see it advertised on Text.
Many remark that they forgot about the MoM until
they saw the text announcements.

I'm confident that if I were to try and do this
in another arena nowhere near the number of
people who participate will show up, dooming
the operation.

So its Titanic Tuesday or its not.

Good point, one last thing to consider on hosting it in another arena would be to get a CM to make an all arena wide announcement. I mean they do it for jeep races why not MoMs?

I like this idea.  I don't think it would hurt the numbers too badly as long as an announcement could be made in MA's.  I think people would switch over.


I think you should try it.  If it fails, then the following month go back to MA.  Couldn't hurt to try.  Even the AVA is gaining popularity recently showing that we as a community are willing to give something new a chance.

Just sayin.

  Things Ive tried in the past always worked better as far as participation in the MA rather than the SEA or AVA. Its in your face and hard to miss, or turn down since you're already there.
