Disco Fever 17-Sep
« on: September 18, 2010, 07:37:21 PM »
Any other allied squads experience a mass disco right after the spawn-in?  The 325th all disco'd three minutes after spawing - and I mean all of us.  Some of us got back in and did what we could to assemble and drive to the target.  Apologies to our arranged escorts for not showing up at the rendevous point. Thanks go out to everyone who cleared the way though - the few of us that got back up made it to the target and blew stuff up just before the T+60 call.

:salute 412th for doing your job; and for hanging out in the back of our bombers, giving us some peace of mind while head-down in the bombsites and the run home.

We had the same problem 19 of 23 got discoed about 10 miles north of the A61N spawn.  We were winging up when I saw people infront start disapearing and thought it was the devils triangle again.  I have a great recording of it...people just going away left and right!  We did get to the ralley point with no bombers and no pm's being returned from the 325th so we followed a group of 24's almost to 11-16 target and took everyone we could down.  I hope we cleared the skys for you!  We understand...we only had 16 to reup and then we were heavy in the dog fights.

I'll post the recording of 100+ discos!

Gents,

43 folks discoed and Claim Jumpers you had the lion's share.  I have to tell you if you want to fuss I am the one that deserves to be the focus.  I wrote the Air Tasking Order for the frame.  Discoing was a factor that I was aware of and decided to take the risk.  Last spring, the CMs conducted a test where we air spawned over 150 B-17s and it did not crash nor did people disco.
It was a risk and I accept the responsibility.  I do want to thank every one for bearing with the glitches and flying a great mission.  You guys in the bombers did a great job on the targets.  :salute

The skies were pretty clear over the city for the few 325th that got there at T+60...well done and much appreciated.

I find this an interesting statistic - I think it says a lot about air spawns (possibly amplified by bombers with formations enabled):

Event Logs
Should Have Been A Milkrun - FRAME 3

Summary for the Allies
Side Statistics
  Pilots   193
  Sorties   282
  Disco'd   43

Summary for the Luftwaffe
Side Statistics
  Pilots   183
  Sorties   220
  Disco'd   6

I suspect it has more to do with everyone on the allied side only using 2 spawn points (they just happen to be air spawns) then a problem with air spawns in general.

Discos are going to happen, it just hit us hard.  Mystic2 responded quick and we were able to get most guys back in the air.  We did launch in smaller groups and made our turn to target ASAP.

I am sure your right baumer tull and I discussed at great length sending so many to 1 SP.
After debating we went with it for 2 reasons. 1 The mass disco bug was solved by htc. 2 We really tried to make the 3rd frame true 8th AAF style.
Sorry if our plan overloaded something and caused the disco's.

I was part of the spring test of massive formations of bombers. As John Cameron Swayze used to say in the old Timex commercials---"Well--it worked in rehearsal".  :D
