Map rotation
« on: October 01, 2010, 08:45:27 AM »
I'm surprized no one has mentioned the different maps in the mains. I haven't played this week, but last weekend i think they had the Uterus map up in orange. That is probably the only time I've seen everyone flock to blue. Blue had more folks in it then orange did all weekend I believe. And the map in blue was one I've never seen before. Is it new or just a older one?

I just thought the player flow and different maps was interesting and fun. I'm hoping it's that way this weekend.

Mindanao is an old map that was taken out of rotation...apparently its back. its a really uneven map though. one country always gets the advantage of a 5k base while the West country always has a flat beach style of terrain at 0k on almost all the bases.

Yep you nailed it. I refuse to fly on that map because of how lopsided it is. There's a base in the southern part of the map thats 7.5K

i actually love it. i love the challenge of having to fight the enemy on their terms and to their advantage... challenges lead to fun. although im not much of a base taker in the game. i prefer the love of the adrenaline rush of a good 10 on 10 or more while escorting a large bomb raid. its also a good map for CV capping missions. another of my preferences

For the life of me, I can't remember that map. What was the name of the one with the big lake (I called it Scrape Iron Lake) at FT? The bases were something like 5K above the it if I recall.

Donut!
When it was on, 80% of the arena was within that sector over the lake furballing. It was awesome. Some of the best fights I've had in AW/AH were either right in the middle or off to the side of that lake. And for the GVer's there was a ring of vbases around the whole thing.
That's the only map I ever want back when these threads pop up.

I have saw desert and winter maps in AvA. I always wondered why I never see them in the MA.

You'll see different maps in FSO and special events also. That doesn't necessarily mean they are suited for main arena play.

3 way balance for gameplay is not always easy to accomplish.
Look at Mindanao, that thing has been around forever, and if your stuck in the country to the south you can bet you'r going to lose. Where the country in the NW has a decided tactical advantage.
