I have a PIII800EB in ASUS P3V4X and get 53 FPS 39 on the ground where before I got 29FPS. My vidoe card ios TNT2 Ultra CL.

Rip a good board to get if you dont want the VIA chip set is the  P3BF only problem is its not UDMA66 and not AGP4x the P3V4X is both. If you get the second or havt to changed it that is let me know got a link to speed up vidio on it.

If it is a bad MB, can I replace the old one with an identical MB without losing HD data?
YES!
about memory....i have celeron 366 at 66Mhz so i can't checked it by myself, but P2 350using 100Mhz memory (the same with P3) so i think there is other reason for it.

If you fried the MB with static (not likley cause it worked once) you could have fried everything or nothing else.  most likely just the MB. If the ram is not working you get ram error messages durring the POST test at boot.

is your PIII a Copermine ? as it does have a different Voltage than the Katmais (PII)... it should have detected it by himself, but who knows... Tried thee CPU on another System to see if it's not the CPU that fried ?

!!!!OOPS !!!!! never mind

Rip,
It sounds like you may have blown the MB.
To answer your question about reformatting the drive when changing the MB, NO you do not have too, you will get all type of complaints from Windows and it will start detecting new hardware and requesting the new drivers...(they should come with the new MB) once installed you can clean up the registry under Windows 98 by going to the system information and run the registry checker.
If you want more information feel free to e-mail me at heater@wardogs.org

Cheers
