Vink

the actual total distance you move can be set/adjusted within the Track IR programing, not just the angle or range of head motion.

seeing as everyone one else is coughing up their view secrets i guess i might as well give up mine too.

i don't not use the X or Y axis views of the Track IR programing. I use only the raise/lower, slide left/right, zoom in/out and rotate left/right views from the Track IR the X and Y axises i use buy means of my hat switch.

i don't preset the views, i leave them at the standard settings.

if i want to check 6 i pull the hatswitch back and it gives me the 6 view then i just move my head a bit to slide from one side to the other.

the way to eliminate having to constantly push your head back and forth while checking 6 is simple. when you set your static head location in the cockpit don't just sit centered, push your head forward a little then set your static Track IR view. when you do this you will find 2 things happen when you sit normally, 1 your forward view will set as if you are sitting back in the seat and 2 when you hat switch to your 6 O'clock you will find that you are already pulled back and have a wide open view without having to move your head back/out. then it is as i said, just a little slide from one side or the other to get the perfect 6 view for the circumstances.

i find that without using the Track IR on the X and Y axises i have less jumping and alot less sticky spots when in the jerking bouncing throws of a furball or close in knife fight. a small amount of head movement gives me every angle of every view that i couldn't readily get from just the hatswitch and almost none of the issues that are common lost in limbo problems that come with using just the tracker IR.

its the best of both worlds.

hope it helps........well unless its me your shooting at that is!!!!

I never thought of turning some of the axis off in tracker. I figured I had to be tracker on non-tracker, but didn't think I could mix and match. I will try that.

i made a mistake in my post, its not the X Y axis in track IR. in Track IR it will be called the pitch and yaw. just unclick the boxes for these setting in the profile then hit save.

Roger, but either way that opens up the possibilies to mix and match. I will play around with it just to see what I can do.  :salute

remember Vink, when you are setting your Track IR that you need to find the ranges of motion that are comfotable for you to use and then maximize the settings so the Track IR will allow you to move through that entire range of motion without jumping or freezing.

takes a little time but when you are done and you can move your views around smoothly and easily without jumps and freezes its sooooo worth the effort.

good luck

One other TrackIR issue I noticed last night flying around in the P-51B. When I moved my head to the side to see around the nose on a deflection shot I can only go so far because of the limit of the view. I assumed the limit was the game cockpit glass limit. Later as I toggled to snap view mode, I used the 'move head position left [and right] funtion and found the limit was quite a bit further than with Track IR.

Does anyone know why that is? I assume the game determines the limits, but does it assume some generic head diameter with TrackIR and a head diameter of zero with preset views? Anyone else notice this before?

Remember that the TrackIR unit on top of your monitor can only read the reflectors (or LEDs) inside a cone-shaped area in front of it.  I found that I have to keep my cap-mounted TrackClip at least two or three feet away from my TrackIR 3 Pro, and directly in front of it.  If you find that you want more travel for your in-game head along one of the axes (say, side-to-side on the Y axis for that deflection shot), maybe tweak the profile to increase the scaling...?

I use version 4 of the TrackIR software with my TrackIR 3 Pro + Vector.  Here is a link to my profile

If possible update your track IR software to Track IR 5, the program is much more advanced and easier to work with overall.

the issues of the difference in total movement is 2 part; 1 the in game axis movement seems to give just the tiniest bit more on all axises but not enough to make a difference. 2 make sure you peak the range of your movement potential in Track IR. you nedd to use the globe given within the programing to find your edges and adjust your curves and peaks so that you can exploit the maximum potential while remaining comfortablly within you personal range of motion. speed settings will also help with this, as the faster the setting the shorter total distance moved is required to reach the maximum amout of potential, or on the flip side of that the slower the speed the smoother and more detailed your view becomes.

good luck to all and if your not happy with the way your Track IR is operating then just keep adjusting it!! make sure to save your old profile under a different name and then copy it to make adjustments to, in case you get to far away from where you were comfortable you have a quick way back.

I'd like to, but my older TrackIR 3 can't run the version 5.0 software. The web site says that version 5.1 will support my older hardware, but I'm hoping Santa will bring me a shiny new TrackIR 5.

if the 5.1 version will work and support your hardware then most definately use it!!!!!

oh and Santa ask me to pass you a message in regards to your band new Track IR 5.......well you see the cheap plastic 8 way hat switch and poorly manufactured dashpot found within his X52 has been giving him many many issues as of late. well to make a long story about crashing into chimneys and completely missing roof tops as a direct result of losing vis a short one he says that he needed to upgrade his ability to maintain a good SA. he decided to upgrade to the TrackIR 5 and just happened to have one on hand that was slated to be given to a person who's behavior has been what you would call borderline at best. he went on to talk about too many HO's too much ace piloting, vulching, picking and other such noobish SA and ACM less behavior for a very long time. he listed the miss-deeds and miss-behavior of a particular person to such a great amount as to make me think "no way, he must be making this stuff up, no one could possibly be this dweebish"!

but whether his tale of evil doings is truth or false the end result is the same.......not this year Bino! but he does have a wonderful piece of shiny cartoon coal polished and ready for your cartoon stocking!  :devil

This is not related to the check 6, but initial setup. I am not using the LED's, so i had to raise my monitor a little bit.

When I am in a fight I have a habit of lifting up in my seat, and sometimes the reflectors would be above the receiver on the monitor. This causes major jitters when it resets itself, and caused me to lose many close fights.

By raising the monitor two inches yesterday, the reflectors always stay within the devices view.

Hope this helps someone

Open your profile and go to the motion tab. Change your motion style to "Dot". Then you will inherit the "6" view along with ALL of your saved views from your (.hps) file. But, you will only be tracking with the x and y axis. I like it better than 6 axis vector tracking. I'm not into being able to lick my lower spine just to get a reasonable "6" view.
