Toe Brakes on CH Pro Pedals USB
« on: June 30, 2000, 03:16:00 PM »
I got my CH Pro pedals USB today. I took a shot at setting up toe brakes to left and right brakes. Here is how I did it.

Axis X on the pedals is the left toe brake. Axis Y is the right toe brake. I went into the Joystick setup, clicked on Select Joystick, and bound AH control button 9 to the Pro Pedals X axis, and AH control button 10 to the Pro Pedals Y axis. Of course, in my case buttons 9 and 10 weren't used. Use buttons that aren't used in your setup.

In Stick Mapping, Flight Keys, I set Button 9 to Left Brake and Button 10 to Right Brake.

Even if the X and Y axes are analog, this works. But on takeoff and landing I have to be veeeeeerrry cautious not to press toe brakes even a single millimeter or the brakes will be activated at a veeeeeeerrry unfortunate time.  So I push on the pedals with my heels.

Darn, my gunnery and ACM will be shot to hell for a while until I adjust to pedals.

U know it , but feels more real to me now . I tried going back for one flight last weekend . No way !!! Peds the way to go , all around use . But the snap shots are way harder IMO .

Thanks for the info , will pass this on to me mates .

cheers spro

I followed your instructions and the toe brakes did register.

The problem is that they only lock on fully and remain locked on whenever I push one of the toes. The only way to release them is to hit the same toe brake key on the keyboard.

I did some experimenting offline in the f3 external mode to get a look at things. Maybe you should take a look at it that way. I found if I hit the c or v on the keyboard it produce a small instant toe brake effect, but when I touched either CH Pedal toe it locked that brake in position no matter what I did until I hit the same toe brake key on the keyboard which then seemed to release it.

As a result I found the CH Toe Brake Pedals useless.

Any idea on how to get the pedal toe brakes just to send a keystroke when they are depressed and to release when the pedal is released?

Maybe it's something very simple I have overlooked.

rangerbob, if you're using Speedkeys, from CH,map the toe pedal as 'c' or 'v' and make it a macro, then clik the 'hold til release' box . mebbe this will help
i have c & v mapped to dot buttons on throttle, this works fine, can use to steer.

Weird. This doesn't happen on my setup. When I release the toe brake pedals, my plane stops breaking. Of course, I have to be careful to make sure both pedals are not pressed forward in the least manner, so on landings and takeoffs I control the rudder by pushing the pedals with my heels.

For me the toe brakes function exactly as the C and V keys do.

I'm not using any software from CH, and I haven't received my Saitek X36 yet (still using my MS SW 3D Pro without the stick twisting).

I dont' have any Speedkeys software or whatever from CH. These USB Prop Pedals didn't come with anything like that. I don't use the other CH stuff, because they don't have a combination USB Throttle and Stick out yet.

I'm using the Saitek USB Throttle and Stick along with CH USB Pro Pedals. They work great, but I can't get this toe brake thing to work right.

Thanks,

Well after trying it offline for a while, I'm not sure it's a good idea. Taking off with that configuration is pretty dangerous.

Maybe we'd better wait for ah support for analog brakes, and map the brakes to joystick buttons.

I think you're right DrSoya. I noticed that even if I could get working correctly it would be dangerous to accidentally push on the toe brake while steering with the rudder on landing or takeoff.

It's a minor loss compared to the major gain of flying, and landing, with these excellent pedals. Besides, most of the other pedals on the market don't have toe brakes anyway.
