We have a Betty (at least, it's coming).

This opens up some new territory on early and mid PTO scenarios.


What else do we need to redo Rangoon? Rangoon needs some changes and tweaks to the rules and the setup to really make it shine, but the one thing REALLY holding it back all this time has been the lack of a Betty bomber!! Now we have it!

I suppose we could really use some A5Ms or some Ki-43s (what was there? I can't recall specifics). The "Brewster" doesn't really fit as it's far too light and manuverable compared to the real deal (you'd have it winning the war single handedly in AH!). Too bad our P-40B is really a C and not the very-fast B the AVG had. Other than those, I can't see a reason not to redo (or at least think about...) Rangoon!

There are a number of things that can be done with the AVG as well, substituting A6M2s and Betties for Nells (although bit of a stretch to use a G4M1 for a Ki-21 as was often used over China). There was an interesting documentary a while back (I said "interesting," not necessarily "accurate") where an AVG pilot tells of scrambling to chase down Ki-21s or some such in a dawn/dusk setting, sighting the flames from their exhausts, shooting down 2 but catching on fire and landing in a river to douse it.

Brings up a lot of the ol'e imagination in me!

Don't forget this opens up Rabaul as an option.  Not to mention the New Guniea Campaign with the 5th AF.

And it makes doing Coral Sea, Eastern Solomons and Santa Cruz with other actions thrown in easier as well.

We should get some PTO scenarios lined up for next year, I'd like to see one revisited that was just short of the Bettys and one that's never been tried before.  Also on the subject of looking a bit ahead, maybe try to schedule a BoB for next year to coincide with the end of summer and start of fall.  And my last cent to throw in would be, did anyone ever look into doing a scenario involving the new brewster (are we waiting on more early russian aircraft?) or the new mossie variant?

There are three things which must be considered for scenarios.  They are in no particular order..

1.  Planeset.
2.  Can it be replicated in the HTC game system.
3.  Terrains.

Terrains are the key to it all.  In order to run events you have to have a battle ground to fly over.

The CM terrain team is a top notch dedicated group who are constantly updating the maps we have and bringing out new ones for our use.  This year alone  they added Mindano which was the source of the last scenario, Germany, Greece and Okinawa.

As more terrains become available it opens up more options for events.
