'shimmering' ground effect ?
« on: October 30, 2001, 02:36:00 AM »
hi all,

you know, like the pixels are crawling around ...
is there some setting in AH or display propereties to 'counter' this effect ??

running on a GeForce2 MX with Detonator3 7.52 drivers. i've tried several of the new versions but i still like the 7.52 best (btw: tweakersasylum.com also rates them as one of the best sets released by nVidia)

OK, will try ...
found it in the release note :

"Added detailed ground textures. This feature can be toggled on and off with CTRL C.

Ground clutter is now collidable and can no longer be turned off."

not on-line yet ; want to play Ploesti first, if EA let's us ...

Depends on how you define ground clutter, I guess.

AH has had stuff on the beaches such as tank traps and the like since I started playing, but it was only a graphic, it wasn't "there" and could be turned off as ground clutter.

Since the new version (1.08), "real" ground clutter such as the tank traps and trees have been added, and these indeed can't be turned off. However, a new graphical layer was introduced to cover the ground texture which is supposed to add to the feeling of ground speed, I understand. It's this layer that gives the shimmer, and that can be turned off with control-C.

If you're not signed up yet, you can still play head to head. That's free, and will give a chance to "get with it" before you come into the MA.

Make sure you have the Mip Mapping box checked in the AH video setup.  I think there's also a spot in the GeForce drivers where you can set the level of Mip Mapping from best speed to best picture.
