Late Night Flying
« on: October 22, 2010, 06:38:30 PM »
I've noticed for the last few weeks, particularly on Saturday night. We have all gotten used to the big map (whichever of the two arenas it is) having the most people and therefore the most fights. As the night goes along people gradually move over to that thinking that the fights will be there as well.

There seems to be a critical mass point where the number of people on the big map falls below a certain point and it becomes no longer possible to find a fight, even though the arena numbers suggest otherwise. Sometimes its due to 2 of the 3 countries will be fighting off in some far corner of the map so the third can't join in but other times it just seems that people are so spread out they can't really find each other. The milk runners are trying to bomb and take bases without running into anyone which makes the arena effectively a desert.

Just a thought, but as the night progresses, the move should be toward the SMALL map. This would ensure plentiful fights for the entired time. Could be instituted by a call on country or 200 to suggest a move to the small map.

Noticed the same thing this weekend. Another idea, but one that would require HTC work, would be for the server to shut down bases on the outer edge of the map based on number of players. This would force the action back into the center where all players can participate. Might make it unpopular for those folks that like to roll bases late at night where there is no opposition. :)

Noticed that the country switch limit was removed for the con weekend arena. Was really the only way Tec and I could find a fight last night. And even then we were switching countries a couple of times within an hour.

I've found where some big maps with few people have more fights than when there are a lot of folks in there. It is the people on at the time you log on that make the difference. It has very little to do with numbers or map size.

It appear that everyone is applying their timezone version of "late night" :). I'm speaking specifically of 1am -4 am EST or 11pm-2 am PST. At this point the fights have been pretty much drying up for at least one of the countries.

The suggestion is a cooperative way to make it better for all concerned.

I liked Luche's suggestion better, having a different arena during slow hours with smaller maps. I also like the idea of being able to switch sides more freely during slow hours.

Actually I'd agree with that Ardy, but that requires action from the HTC side. This is something we can do just cooperatively by increasing communication in game.
