Adding new thermal GREASE not paste to a video card is a good idea.  There are (if I remember correct) 12 screws (two are where you plug your monitor into).  Remove the screws some makers have them with springs then with a puddy knife separate the housing from the actual card. The fan connect is not very long so beware.  Look at where the manufacturer has applied thermal tape and replace with the grease.  Shoot me a PM if you get in a jam.

I did exactly that some 2 years ago on a passive cooled Radeon 2600xt.

Came with sticky pink crap, started having artifacting and other heat issues.
Take your time, be carefull, lay out screws in the order you take them off, etc.

IMO Artic Silver works much better than the crap they used.

Yes I did similar to my old AGP FX6200 card years ago.. it kept doing goofy things, so I reseated the (passive) heatsink with some new grease, and I installed a small 2" fan over the heatsink.  Completely cured its issues.  To be honest, I think AH2 was just a bit much for that card (even back then) but I played AH with that card for a couple years anyway.

Now that I think of it, my brother uses that card in his PC to play WOW today...
