they are very rare but do occur, not as strong as in the mid west..

You guys seem to have the Market cornered on that, they do occaisionally happen in Australia but there is usually no one to see it.

They can happen virtually anywhere. Iv'e seen video of UK tornadoes, but of course N America has the best conditions for them.

Cold dry Canadian air channeled down the east side of the rockies colliding with warm moist gulf of Mexico air.

That's why so many hit in TX, OK, KS, and Eastern Colorado, etc.

Yep, psuh a nice warm air mass from the largest gulf in the world northward, and mix it with cold Canadian air and push that southward. Tornado alley!

Yeah we get them all the time here.  Often in the spring and early fall we get several warnings a week.  They're not so bad unless they hit your house specifically, and that's pretty unlikely if you look at the odds.  Keeps the change of the seasons interesting.

Interesting how common tornado s are central U.S. but rarely seen in other parts of the world.

first, its called "Europeans" and second, yes we have occasionally tornadoes too here, no F5 scale though as far as i know.
