More CV control
« on: November 05, 2010, 01:12:57 AM »
Apologies if this has been posted already.

I would like to see the ability to "lock down" a CV group. We already have the ability to "take command." Why not add an ability to hold sorties? This way CV planning could be better implemented to stop the fools (you know who I'm talking about) who prematurely up and give away the location. I'm open to criticism. Thoughts?

So who decides if people are allowed to take off?

I'm all for it, with the following conditions:

1. Only if it costs you every perk point you have, or will ever earn from that point forward (meaning you will never have any perks in the bank to spend on anything - ever).
2. Your ability to hold sorties on that CV group lasts until you release control of the CV, it gets sunk, or you log out.
3. To do this to another CV group requires #1 above.  DOH! You won't have any perks ever again, sorry.

We can safely file this under, "Not a chance in ell." :lol

Seriously though, I can understand your frustration on this.  It can be a real pain when you are trying to get a CV in close enough to launch an attack without one or two folks upping from it, giving it's position away.  Just gotta deal with it.  At that point you should probably up to launch your attack then and/or defend her, or let her be sunk.

I like the idea, ALOT, but it will never work in practice..............

Now the cv Commander has gone afk and the cv is being attacked 200 miles from a friendly base..............  What do we do?

Well, people already have the ability to take command and send CVs to their doom as it is. People fight over them all the time already (sending them into PT spawns, right into SB range). It's a concept which would need tweaking, clearly. On the larger arenas, I SELDOM see a CV successfully take a base due to the premature give aways. CVs seem pointless unless everbody uses them properly. That, of course, won't happen... (to quote a prior post's emphasis) EVER.

I agree that CVs are misused 95% of the time, whether its a straight course into the SB or hiding it away in some remote corner. I agree that locking a CV down could have its advantages. I've had instances where 5-6 of us are working the town with the ship's guns and someone ups, then all hell breaks loose and the CV dies 10 or 15 minutes sooner than it could have in the base-take process.

However, while I think its a good idea in concept and purpose, I don't see how it could be effectively applied to the game without causing all sorts of grief.

So +1 and -1. That means my post has no useful purpose whatsoever.

I do agree entirely. This is really posted due to personal frustration and trying to estimate how other players feel about it. Based on the reaction, it isn't something that could ever be implemented. The people pleased with the change would be in the minority. Thanks for the comments.

Here's an idea : Forget about taking the base, enjoy the fight while your enemies are still willing to

Ya know, I logged on the other night and did just that - we had a massive low-alt furball going on - we were upping from the CV and fighters were upping from the base and we were all meeting in the middle. We were all having a blast, we even posted on 200 that we'd stop shelling the town with the CV if they agreed not to kill it, all in the interests of having a good fight that lasted more than 10 minutes. They actually agreed, and a good fight was had for probably 15 minutes. Even the SB stopped shooting.

Then 3 groups of Lancs appeared overhead, sank the CV, and the fight was over.
