21.83's aint cuttin it

Well, the 12.41's worked "ok" with the exception of the "twitchiness of the display that comes and goes. The 21.83's made my FR shootup into the 40-50's but I get this crazy discoloration in the terrain, and in the clipboard. any suggestions? I was using mipp mapping.

My observation is that nvidia's bleeding edge drivers seem to work best with their latest hardware.  Older cards work best with the older drivers.  I'm using 6.41 with my GeForce SDR.  That seems to be the latest I can use without psychadelic color effect.

Try the drivers that came with your card.

actually, I have tried 6 different drivers, and I think I have it whipped with the 21.85's. more to come..

I disabled paletised textures in AH and the crazy colors went away. So Geforce2MX 400+21.85 driver are giving me 60-70 FR average. Not bad. Its the new processor/MB that is doing it.

What OS are you running?

For Win2k, I use the 7.58's, they rock and are very stable.  For Win98, you should try the 7.78's.

Anything later than that and I have problems with TnT2 and GeForce cards.  Anything earlier doesn't have all the functionality.

Find one set that works and stick with it.

Oh, and be sure to search for "Detonator Destroyer" if you have Win9x/ME.  Use that in between driver versions when you are going from higher numbers to lower ones.

Ive got 3 systems for testing and have tested all drivers up to the latest.

With Win98 & Gforce2 MX400 64meg card, Lephturn is right on the money. 7.78 are the most stable drivers ive found for AH & wwiio.

New drivers i was seeing a blue tear or rip. And they just plian dump me to desktop after 5 mins in wwiio.

Found the certified drivers at 3dguru.com. Im at work but will post the link for it later.

Also a good util at there site is the Detonator Destroyer program. A must if you have been installing a lot of different versions...

Dog out............

Thanks for the link, Lephturn. The 7.58's work perfectly on my GeForce2 GTS, with almost the same Frame Rates I got with the 22.50's, with no psychedelics or artifacts.

Flying behind the spinning prop hub and gunsight, with the rest of the plane invisible was fun for a while, but....  ;)

Glad I was able to help.  :)

You can get all the detonators there.  For anything below a GeForce 3 I recommend 7.78's on Win9x, and 7.58 on Win2k.  The GeForce 3 folks may want to play with the latest builds, but be prepared to install and un-install a lot.  When you get a set that works right, don't screw with it.  :)

BTW, the link for the Detonator Destroyer program is:  http://www.guru3d.com/detonator-destroyer/

Hey lephturn, thanks for all this good advice . I have 6.31 drivers and have no problems. Is it worth going to 7.78? I suspect I'll notice no difference. But will 6.** drivers work ok with Directx8a (which I havn't installed yet but will soon as Ill2 Sturmovik needs it)

I'm not sure about DX8 compliance.  If everything is working though, don't try anything later unless you need to.  If you need DX8 for IL2 and that breaks something for you, then go get the 7.78's.  But try it first.  :)

BTW, if you have a TNT, not a TNT2, I think the most recent drivers you can use are the 6.50's.  The later drivers only include TNT2 and GeForce model drivers.  At least that has been the case in my experience with the Win2k drivers.
