Bomb Damage Testing
« on: December 02, 2010, 11:23:09 PM »
So there I was in the EW arena, doing individual bombing missions in an SBD to test the actual damage transfer from a single bomb to a hanger when I hit a snag....

I cant get the damage to register with the reporting system when I used 100lb bombs.  My first run was with a single 100 lb bomb and no damage message came across the text bar.  The second run I tried a pair of the 100 lb bombs (again from the SBD) and still no damage register.  Is there a minimum?  The 500 lb and 1000 lb bombs both registered.

Anyone???

There is minimum damage, and if you keep on testing that way (i suggest Ju-88 with the 50kg bombs), you will find out the number and can tell us what it is. :)

Yes.

But it's easier to do this kind of tests when having more bombs available.

very good point. I too bad we dont have the parafrag bombs. would be easier and would have about 40 tries.

That was my original idea, but after uppin the 10/50kg package w/ %50 fuel and dropping a single 50kg on a hanger and getting no results, I upped again only to be dealt a PW on my 5k alt bombing pass, so I turned around and did a slow dive bomb only to eat dirt from passin out again.  So... I upped the SBD in hopes of at least getting a reading on the 1000 and 500 lb bombs.

Interesting finds, so far.      :headscratch:

Thanks!  That is so much help!   ;)

Funny thing though, I'm getting different damage from the Japanese 500kg bomb than the German 500kg bomb (DE=852 and JPN=704).  Tested it 2 different times and the results are the same.  The Japanese bombs seem to pack less punch, yet the "coading" shows a single number.  I'll wager than the speed of the bomb as it travels earthbound makes no impact on the damage delivered???  After doing a quick bit of referencing, I did find that the Japanese bombs and the German bombs did have different weight of explosives in their respective bomb weights (I'll be the Soviet bombs are different as well).  I'll post exact data when I collect it all.  If it is currently the same, perhaps a bit of a change between the ordnance could be made???

ALSO... I can drop 4/50kg bombs from a Ju88 via a dive and get a direct hit on a hanger and earn 464 damage points, but 3/50kg bombs will not register (in the text bar).  I dropped 4/100lb bombs from a TBM in a dive and earned 373 damage points and those 4 did register, but with less points.  What gives?

Loon are you using your score to determine the points?

If so those are completely  different numbers. Also any blast radius can change numbers.

I made an incorrect assumption that I could be accurate enough to hit only the VH and not the OBJ/buildings next to them.  I started to do bomb testing on the lone bomber hanger on the lower right corner of a small airfield.  There are no other OBJ near and it is large enough that it is quite hard to miss, a direct hit has been easy to accomplish.  I will start from scratch.

Regarding the values assigned, you listed a 250kg bomb has having a "3960" value.  After testing again on the bomber hanger it showed 396 points of damage once I landed.  So far so good.   ;)   All testing has been done in the EW or MW arenas.
