Non typical antlers are very common on Whitetail deer.
Non typical antlers of that size arent. But then again, typical antlers of that size and mass arent an everyday occurance also.
From what ive read, its Genetics, injury and food that can result in antlers like those. Regarding passing along those genes, i think it would actually be better to get it out of the gene pool. Ive heard stories (friend is a PA game Warden) of a deer that actually died as a result of deformed antlers growing down into its neck, becoming infected and actually killing the deer.
