Trying to decide which GeForce 3 to go with?
« on: December 26, 2001, 02:38:00 PM »
About a month back I decided I was going to upgrade my video card from the MX 400 to something a bit better.  There was already a discussion going on at the time that I found helped out tremendously.  Especially the links to Tom’s hardware and the 8 dimensional web sites.  This is what I have to share.

I went with the Leadtek Geforce3 Ti200.  I have a 1.1 AMD Athlon system with 384MB RAM running Window’s ME.  I have my video settings at 1600x1200 with 32 bit colors.  My FPS in the air run 45-55, in traffic around 40-50, at a base with smoke and a high volume of aircraft between 30-40.

Now this is far ahead of the MX 400 that I had and the difference is very noticeable.  The choices were the regular Geforce3, the Ti500, or the Radeon 8500.  Out of these the Radeon was the most attractive but the overall reviews seem to lack when it came to driver support.  They got ruled out for this fact alone.  The Ti500 was the shiner out of them all.  When the prices were compared to actual performance though the regular Geforce3 was a better buy.  The regular Geforce3 though is still very expensive.  At least, too expensive for me anyway.  After all the tic marks were tallied up the Ti200 came in as the winner with a short answer as to why.

It was only $178, no shipping.  I couldn’t be happier.
