See - this is where I get excited.

Everytime I see some magical ACM combo from a good pilot I fly against and lose (or win occationally) it makes me want to play more - not less.

As someone who has always managed to dominate every video game I have ever played at the MMO level in pvp - AH2 is the first and only game where I see a long future practising and mastering air combat. . . that prospect, and the lack of any kind of economic grind means its the perfect game.  If this game were easy, I would get bored asap.

Add to that the great community, and I am basically here.

This game really is a lot like golf.  It's difficult to master and frustrating at the beginning, but even when you're having a bad day, you'll do something awesome that will make you want to come back.

I just passed the milestone of achieving a positive kill/death score (more kills than deaths in a single tour).  Guess now I can start learning to fly properly.

I recommend you do a few things.

One, do a ton of reading on ACM.  Get a good grasp of what people like to think of as E-fighting and angles-fighting.

Two, get with a trainer.  The ACM information will be necessary, but you probably won't be able to actually apply it very successfully without some guidance into why certain things work at certain times, and why they get you ripped to shreds in others.  The absolute best maneuver for a situation will get you killed if you do it at slightly the wrong time, or angle, or speed in relation to your opponent, etc...

Then review the ACM info again.  Now that you "know something", it'll make a whole lot more sense, and you'll grasp things you blew right by previously without even knowing you were blowing by them...

Also, get closer before you shoot.  When the icon counter switches from D400 to D200, you're at 300yds, which is a great time to open fire.  No matter how good you are at ACM and spacial use, you'll die if you can't hit your target hard, and quick.  Good shooting can make up for some ACM flaws as well.  For a little while at least, I'd even pay attention to your hit%, with the goal of actually seeing it improve.  As mentioned, you're at roughly 1/2%.  I think the game average is around 3 or 4%.  Strive to reach 5% or more.  If you can maintain 10% in fighter vs fighter type shooting, you'll be just plain deadly.  I'd guess it'll take you a few years to hit that goal.  Keep in mind that strafing ground targets will lower your hit% though, so to really track it you'd want to "fight" in fighter mode, and switch to attack mode when you plan to strafe ground targets, etc...

Broken..I feel your pain.  What has helped me lately is to stay in highly populated areas as to avoid alot of 1-1 or 1-2 contacts which i will lose 99% of the time.  You can work on things a bit better when you are not the focus and have some fun at the same time.  As you get more confidence you can escalate your encounters.

How do you find missions?  Is there a place that lists all the current missions or do you have to go to each field and check the mission board?

Missions are usually advertised by their creators on the countrychannel. Most of them pretty much so.
Also the mission board is the same, regardless which field you are on.

I am by no means a good pilot but approximately 6 months ago I decided to make 2 changes in my approach which helped me immensely. One, never dive into the pack. Even the best pilots will get gunned down when they engage in a furball on the deck at slow speeds. Put yourself in position where you have an advantage and then engage. Two, avoid a HO at all costs. I used to blame others for head-on collisions but came to realize it's my job alone to get out of the way. These changes are by no means revolutionary but my kills per sortie went from .50 to 1.2, thus making the game more enjoyable.

Hope this helps.

There's something to be said for that for sure.  Especially for newer players.  And it's fun, and great for learning SA.  But finding yourself a 1v1 every odd sortie will go a long way to learning to dogfight 1v1, which for a lot of players is the most fun the game can be.

Throttle control for turns and also don't yank and bank as this will just slow you down...rudder also...and of course do you have the stall limiter off.

Best tip I ever got. Took me a long time to learn that keeping throttle firewalled was getting me shot down.

AHfilm.exe is in your Aces High folder. Double click it, then File, Open.  Defaults to ..\Aces Hich\films
