I watched the pilot miniseries and was like...  :huh  :cry  :furious

Not one remotely likable character. Apollo was a jerk, and they turn Starbuck from a roguish with a heart of gold Han Solo-type into an insolent and insubordinate squeak. Baltar went from being a megalomaniacal traitor to just some poor sap being led around by his balls by a Cylon fembot. The one REMOTELY cool thing Baltar did was randomly pointing some dude on the bridge of Galactica out as being a Cylon to throw suspicion off himself. Until it turns out that the random dude he accused of being a Cylon actually turned out to BE a Cylon. Lame!

And wow, apparently anti-virus software doesn't exist in any SciFi universe, considering how easy it is to disable ENTIRE enemy fleets with one. It's becoming an annoying cliche watching the heroes (or villains, as the case may be) basing their entire battle plans around MS Blaster.

I also don't buy the reasoning behind making Starbuck and Boomer women. They said that BattleStar needed more strong female characters, and yet they REMOVED the series's three strongest: Athena, Cassiopeia and Sheba.

FarScape was about 1000x's better. Even the early episodes before the series really found its legs with the Wormhole plot.

Hater ;)

I liked the new Starbuck but she had the morals of a hyperactive goat.

Never watched Farscape but so many AHrs have touted it I may have to give it a look.

Saxman's just mad because he's a Cylon.

The re-imagined version of BSG is one of the best series ever next to Babylon 5. Farscape was ok but I never really got into it.

Now granted the new BSG is not perfect and has it's flaws, but I still think it's very well done. Granted I cringed when I heard they were making spin off series as usually that's when a good name goes down the toilet. The story of a 50 year old battleship and her venerable CO surviving a holocaust and fighting a very powerful enemy just appeals to me.

I only got through the first eps of Farscape. Itj seemed like the same joke over and over, earth guy make pop culture reference, alien says whaa?  earth guy says oh never mind.

I guess it gets better after the first few, is that right?

As for BSG, I thought they did a good job with most of the characters, interesting flaws and all that. Baltar is terrible in the first few, but gets less annoying later on. The only "bad" character I think is Romo, did a terrible job with him. Sunglasses on a space ship, stupid tics.

You are in a maze of twisty little passages, all alike.

I couldn't disagree more x1000.  Battlestar Galactica up until about the 5th episode of the 3rd season is the best thing that has ever appeared on SciFi (or Syfy), and I wouldn't be surprised if its the best thing that ever will appear on Syfy as long as that channel exists.  It is and was so much better than the original BSG that only the most hard-headed stubborn people on the planet that wouldn't admit a remake was better no matter how well the remake was done, fail to admit it.  The decision to make Starbuck female was genius.  Baltar was brilliantly written and played, and in the first season was probably the best and most interesting character on the entire show.  Eddie Olmos is William Adama.  The only real weak actor was Grace Park playing Boomer, and she got much better as the series went along.

Pointing out character faults and calling them unlikeable?  You are a very amateur critic of television then.  Characters are best when flawed.  If you want to watch terrible TV, find a show with perfect characters that make perfect decisions every time.  Battlestar characters are deeply flawed, and just when you get to know them, have a 50% chance of being killed, which really payed dividends when you had no idea how it would end any time any character, no matter how integral to the show, was put in jeopardy.  No show on TV (other than those that were written ahead of time start to finish) has ever done this, other than the re-imagined BSG.

So basically you're saying: Anyone who disagrees with you doesn't know what they're talking about and their opinion is wrong. Sorry, I went through that with my Pop Culture in grade school and high school.

The first 4 episodes or so are the hardest to get into, but it improves GREATLY in the ones following as the show gained traction. However the episode where FarScape REALLY starts to pay off is A Human Reaction (the 16th episode of the first season, IIRC). This is where they introduce the main plot arc (Wormholes and Wormhole Technology/Weapons) that carries the rest of the series. Also, if you watch FarScape thinking it's a comedy, you've probably been misinformed as to what the show is about. There's some funny episodes (see: Crackers Don't Matter, Out Of Their Minds, Won't Get Fooled Again, Scratch 'n' Sniff, Revenging Angel) but the series is primarily an action-drama.

The main characters are flawed, and sometimes do really nasty things, but they remain (for the most part) likeable, which seems to be a concept BD failed to understand: You can make a character flawed, without them being unlikeable.

BSG was an awesome show - I was totally against the changes from the '78 show but when I actually watched it they were actually far better choices. The original has aged badly - let alone the one single decent episode in Galactica 80.

Farscape was okay in parts - Ben Browder was far better the last 2 seasons (+ telefilms) of Stargate SG1...actually so was Claudia Black

QFT. At first Baltar annoyed me with his issues but later on his storyline was actually the most entertaining to watch. I loved his opportunism and constant creeping into ladies pants. You know, selling out his RACE casually to get laid rofl! He is like more refined version of the arch-traitor Stanley Tweedle (Lexx). Same thing with Thigh, the more corrupt he became the more I liked his character. 99% of mainstream TV is Ken and Barbie stuff.

Honestly, I'm out on any more BSG. It had promise then they turned it into a soap opera. Then they turned it into a bad soap opera spin-off (Caprica).
If we are going to remake alternative space programs why not Space 1999?
