That's an excellent list. The Hawk 75 also shows up for France in North Africa.

I was thinking about that.  Fights the Axis in Battle of France.  Fights for the Axis with the Vichy French in North Africa against the Allies then switches back.  Fights against the Japanese with the Dutch, RAF and USAAF.  Fights with the Axis with the Finns.

Kinda made the rounds shooting at most everyone.  Perfect for the MA! :)

Well If I'd been reading about that side of things.... :)

But that's just it... ;) It shouldn't matter what you or me have on our book shelves. ;)

I personally wish the planeset would be developed by plugging the biggest holes in it at any given time. Betty was a great example of this and a great addition. To put it bluntly, Soviet planeset has such holes in it that, in this context, mere talk about adding Beaufighter for example at this stage is sheer absurdity. :P

Reading "Air War for Burma" right now.  Got me thinking when I saw the RAF had Mohawks as front line fighters until January of 44.  Surprised me and got me thinking from that perspective.  And that they were seeing basically all Ki-43s and knowing that the 5th AF guys ran into mainly Ki-43s it just made it even more clear how much that one is missing.

I figured I had the Soviet side somewhat covered with the Hawk 75s after reading that the Fins said they could out turn I-16s in them. :)

Hawk is my personal #1 favourite along with the Me410. But again, in terms of the whole planeset, there are more important aircraft to add right now. One aspect that speaks for the Hawk is the fact that it practically shares its cockpit with the P-40B and would therefore be pretty straight forward variant to add when the P-40 series gets remodelled. I really really wish we'll get it at that point.

Regarding the Ki-43, just like jimson said, I have a hard time believing it isn't here yet. From historic perspective, it is the single most important new airframe to add along the Pe-2.

Another thing I learned from the Burma book was that the highest scoring Allison Mustang ace in WW2 was a CBI pilot.  So yeah it's on my list but below the top 4 and with the P40N :)
I just had to pick.  I'm all for an updated P-40 series.  IIRC Krusty has made some nice post about inaccuracies in our current P-40 line.

I don't disagree with you Wmaker.  Ki-43 seems the most glaring omission.   I don't disagree that the Russian plane set could use some early war stuff to fill it out.

I also try and look at it from the most potential uses too though.  Whether it's fair or not, the number of Russian front scenario FSO etc that are run are probably going to be less then others just because the player base isn't going to be as interested in that part of the airwar.  When I named the 4 in this thread I was thinking of the most potential scenario options too.  I wouldn't have listed the Hawk earlier until seeing it was still in use into 44 in the CBI.  All of a sudden you have PTO, ETO, CBI, MTO, North Africa use.  P40N covers almost all of that.  Beaufighter covers all of that.  Ki-43 is CBI/PTO and the entire war.

I sure wouldn't mind having more early Russian stuff and the Pe-2 would be top of that list for me as well.

If I had to pick 3 of those listed in this thread, it would be the Ki-43, the Pe-2 and the Hawk 75, in that order.

Yes, it would seem smart to do the P40N while updating the series, whenever that happens.
Easy in-game again.

Well, what you are saying about the popularity of the eastern front maybe partly true, but not adding planes to that front certainly makes vicous cycle. It certainly feeds the possible lack of popularity. With the possible exception of Kurland-scenario, every eastern front scenario has been very popular as far as I can tell. I think Stalingrad for example would make a scenario of epic proportions but we don't have a single combat aircraft from the Soviet side to do it with!

Yeh, and I do think that Hawk is in a different boat than these other totally new airframes because it could be done using P-40B's cockpit as P-40s are remolled and it would be a logical to add it at that time. Just like you said it would cover a lot of theaters. Only slight problem is that the CBI Hawks were Cyclone powered and the French Hawks that did the fighting were powered with Twin Wasps...not that it's a big worry though. Wasp-Hawks could easily stand in for Cyclone Hawks for CBI-events.

Tyrannis,
need to add some to the RUSSIAN planeset first (pe-2, tu-2, il-4), then the japanese (ki-43, ki-44), then the italian (re-2002, cr-42 s-79). We also dont have any usable german bomber (ju188 maybe). There is a lil thing called importance. Those are great planes, but there are WAY larger holes in the planeset.

The Rogozarski IK-3 is russian. and would fill the very short list of EW planes. (introduced in 1940)

Fiat G.55 Centauro is italian too.

Who would fly a hurricane without guns if we have the 2c in the early war?
Seriously, we need planes which were played the most roles in the WW2 or those which fill the gaps in the planeset. COuld you tell me whats the difference between the G-55 and the C-205? And why Bellagambi, Visconti or Drago preferred the C205 in '44 summer against the G-55?

Stop comparing the IAR 80 with the FW 190's, they have nothing in common other than a passing resemblence.

Most needed Italian aircraft, from a historical importance standpoint, would be the C.R.42, C.200 and S.M.79-II.

C.R.42 and C.200 would be meat on the table for any fighter in AH right now though.  You only get so much out of an 840hp engine...
