Updated wish list. Just 4 this time
« on: February 12, 2011, 02:09:47 AM »
While the Beaufighter remains at the top of my list, some fun reading about the airwar in Burma has me wanting three other birds for that part of the war and the PTO in general

Ki-43 or Ki-43 II  It's everywhere in the PTO and til the end.  For any scenarios, snapshots or FSO's it's a gotta have it.  Main Japanese ride in the CBI

Hawk 75 aka Mohawk, aka P36.  The RAF still had them as a front line fighter into January 44 in Burma alongside the Hurri IIc.  I had no idea.  The Dutch had them, French had them and the Finns had them.  The Finns in particular were very successful with it.  I want it to fly in Burma, but that's me :)  Battle of France, early North Africa where the South Africans had them, early PTO where the Dutch and US had them and the CBI for the RAF.  And the Chinese had some as well.  Lots of skinning possibilities.

Spitfire Vc Trop.  OK I know, it's another Spitfire, but it would have the big tropical filter of the overseas Spit Vs.  It was the first Spit in the CBI in very late 43, the RAAF had Vc Trops and obiously the MTO Spit Vs were tropicalized.  It wouldn't be the performer of a non tropicalized Spit, but would really cover a lot of scenario, FSO, Snapshot ground.  I'd hope for it to have DT or bomb capability too a it did that a long time in the MTO.  RAF, RAAF, USAAF all flew Spit V Trops

Edited to add the P40N.  Another important player in the CBI and PTO well towards the end of the war.

A-36 and Mustang MKI (NO Cannons).  A-36 dive bombers served in North Africa, the Mediterranean, Italy and the China-Burma-India theater during World War II.  Lots of skinning possibilities.

I'm the endorser of the IAR-81c, but I'd have to agree with Dan's list.   They would further be a compliment to the CM Team.

I think it's unbelievable that we don't have an Oscar.

Should have been one of the first Japanese planes developed here.

There are large holes in the japanese planeset, and they need to be filled as soon as possible. Thats why we got the Betty, and will get the zero remodelled soon, i hope we will get the Oscar as soon as possible, as a part of this process. But there are also big holes in the russian planeset! Il-4, Tu-2, the most used russki bombers, quite capable ones, im sure they wouldnt be hangar queens. Also need some russian fighters, the Jak series, 1-3-7, Mig-3, lagg-3, I-15 etc. Need some additions to the italin set too, the Cr-42 would be pretty much fun, just like the Re-2002, or the light bombers. They were quite capable in the early war.

...except for the fact that you compeletely forgot the Soviet side of the eastern front once again. :neener:

Well If I'd been reading about that side of things.... :)

Reading "Air War for Burma" right now.  Got me thinking when I saw the RAF had Mohawks as front line fighters until January of 44.  Surprised me and got me thinking from that perspective.  And that they were seeing basically all Ki-43s and knowing that the 5th AF guys ran into mainly Ki-43s it just made it even more clear how much that one is missing.

I figured I had the Soviet side somewhat covered with the Hawk 75s after reading that the Fins said they could out turn I-16s in them. :)

Another thing I learned from the Burma book was that the highest scoring Allison Mustang ace in WW2 was a CBI pilot.  So yeah it's on my list but below the top 4 and with the P40N :)

That's an excellent list. The Hawk 75 also shows up for France in North Africa.
Easy in-game again.

The majority of N models were slower than the E but could carry more ord, and were used for ground attack. It externally looked rather different around the canopy area, as well.

If you look at the photos from 43 on it's mainly N models you'll see.
