the intank pump is indeed in there for cooling. there is also oxygen in the tank. it's in that funny thing called air.

the design of the pump dictates where it's mounted. the small size of most pumps subtracts from its ability to shed heat....thus....place it into a naturally cold liquid.
there are plenty of fords out there that use frame mounted pumps, with never a problem. we put them on hot rods too. these pumps are significantly larger than the ones located inside the fuel tank.

and i've never said i'm "awesome".  i say what i say based on 28 years of experience of working on anything that fits in my bays.
28 years of experience  and you think there is air in fuel tank? You even worse than i thought:)

CAP, these days people think you are self-proclaiming yourself to awesome when you reveal the slightest bit of knowledge.  It's usually sparked from jealousy or lack of knowledge.  I have read the majority of your posts in here and not once have I thought you were claiming any "awesomeness.". In fact, it makes me wish I knew more about mechanical stuff and cars so I could actually help with the race car instead of cleaning, grinding tires, and working the jack.

When a tank is half full of fuel, what makes up the volume of the other half?..this should be interesting.

I know absolutely nothing about cars, but since air isn't in the tank, I'm gonna guess that the other half is empty space...or a vacuum?  Just a shot in the dark there lol

Vapors Shamus, there is pressure or vacuum inside the fuel tank. We even have pressue sensors working with the purge valves and other EVAP bullcrap:)

YES, there is vapor, and air. when there is pressure applied, where do you think it comes from? what purpose does the vent valve serve?

Seals the EVAP system for the inspection and maintenance test , also for OBDII leak and pressure tests.

those would be served by the LDP.

the vent valve vents(get it? vents?) air in as the gasoline is used. do you not remember the problems with the early 80's cadillacs that would act like a bad fuel pump.....till you removed the fuel cap, allowing air to vent into the tank?
if air is not allowed into the system, then the tank will cave in to a point, just as on those cadis, and the car will not run.

kinda like the person that finds something to be pissed about in everything?

if you're working on a race car? keep at it. when your work is caught up, hover over the other guys. stay back outta their way, but keep your nose in so you can see what they're doing. once they see you've got an interest in advancing, they'll open up, and show ya stuff......and before ya know it, you'll be top of the food chain.  :aok
