Maybe one of you guys know...
« on: February 14, 2011, 05:57:10 PM »
I just installed 2 Sapphire 6950's with the bios mod.
Using one card machine runs well enough
With crossfire enabled gameplay is choppy and stalls
I suspect my ol Core 2 Duo E6850 is getting over run with things to do

My queston is would going to a Core 2 Quad Q9650 on the same motherboard help much?
Or should I get rid of the X38 chipset and go to an I7 say a I7 950 on a x58 motherboard?
If the Q9650-X38 would at least be able to run and get some use out of the 6950's in CFX I would wait for socket 1155 and a 2600K.
Or is the X58-I7 950 a better way to go for gaming?

Thanks
Yama

From what I'm guessing is there isn't enough ram to help run things or the ram isn't fast enough. The processor should be able to handle it no problem, I do belive. That's just going off what I can see. But your best option is to email a dxdiag to skuzzy and have him lool at it or post one here someone might be able to give you hints from that.

The Core2 Quad Q9650 is night and day difference from what you have now. Your RAM should be good. I have basically the same setup on one system except with 480s in SLI and there isnt any stuttering. I am not familiar with your audio though.

Windows 7 and Quad cores go together like biscuits and gravy.
If you like the Sick Puppy Custom Sound Pack the please consider contributing for future updates by sending a months dues to Hitech Creations for account "Chalenge." Every little bit helps.

If you OC at all the 9650 should do good on air ith a decent cooler.  That will help your video performance dramatically too

Try dropping your overclock to stock settings when using SLI before you go and buy anything. The rule of thumb is that whenever you run into problems, suspect your o/c first.
