is it possible to use "play mission" in another fligth/route?
« on: February 26, 2011, 06:39:15 AM »
If I want to see if all the fligths are going nice from the taxi to the run offs, is it possible to switch the plane that the camera is following?
When we press the play mission button it follows the first fligth that we put. What i want to know is that if it is possible to switch with a button or something  :headscratch:

Raphael:

I too struggle with this. The documentation seems to suggest that it should be possible to watch any flight through the Mission Editor's "RUN" logic, but I have never figured out how to do it. For me, it ALWAYS focuses on the first BISHOP route. For this reason, I wrote this in an earlier posting:

"4- (General Rule): When a mission includes any bombing activity, I always design and test the bombing route first, and get it timed, targetted, and working before adding any escorts or opposition. During the initial test and debug phase, I always assign this activity to the Bishops, even if the overall mission design won't end up that way. This is because it's easier to see and debug the Bishop's activity (this is a quirk of the way the Mission Editor works, and I haven't found any workaround that will permit me to see Knight activities as well as I can see Bishop activity). However, later on, it's frequently necessary to change the bombers to the Knights side, since I want them to be OPPOSED by the targetted naval task force, and if that [hardcoded] entity happens to be owned by the Bishops, then the bombers must be switched to Knight after the debug phase is completed."

You might try switching the flight you want to see back to Bish when running it in the Mission Editor, the switching it back to Knight later, if necessary. That's not a very good solution, but it sometimes helps, and it's the best I've found.

If anybody else knows how to get the Mission Editor to focus on other flights during the "RUN" debug logic, I'd love to hear from them.

Thank you! that is exactly hat i mean. but the difference between us is that in my case the RUN follows the first fligth that I put into the mission, doesnt matter if it is bish or knigths. the missions I am making rigth now are about German bombers and attackers so I followed that #4 by instinct, always making the bomber run first then the opposite force and for last the escort. anyway it would make things a LOT easier if there was just a button to switch fligths, and if it says on the manual that there IS actually some way to do it then we are just missing something. someone must have the answer.

HMMmmmmm..... I've tried that at least 50 times and it has never worked for me. We must be approaching something in a fundamentally different way....

Glad it works for you though. That's what the documentation says to do. Maybe that's a bug that they fixed after they came out with the older version that I generally use.  ???

well I am using the latest version and Ill I have to do is to click on run mission, pause it for a bit, select the fligth i wan to follow and then click real time or set a speed for it.
if you select the fligth before you clicl run mission it will follow the first fligth anyay on my case, so I select the fligth I want to follow while I am running the mission already.
and also if you want a free view i just found out that if you add a route with one fligth and one waypoit that has no segment you can select the fligth then click select while running the mission. this will give with the freedom to move the "camera" like if you were editing :) I dont know but this migth be usefull someway.

Well.... we must be operating under the influence of different gravitational fields or something.... I do not see the behavior you describe. I've tried to follow your precise instructions several times, using the newest version of the Mission Editor (and my old, favorite version), and the Mission Editor NEVER switches focus during the "RUN" mode. I'm glad it's working for you. Not for me.

OK first just click on Run mission

In this example we are folowing the hurricane, but we ant to follow the spitfire Mk I so what we do is to select the spit fligth

and then click view selected

and there you go... it should work for anybody.

Clicking the flight and then hitting View Selected has always been how it works.  It may help to hit Pause in the Run Mission box before selecting, though, if you don't want to miss any of the spawning and take-off.

Raphael:

Thanks for trying to help. Your images helped me to identify the problem. (It still doesn't work for me, but at least now I know I'm not going crazy.)

At the bottom right of all of your images I can see three buttons that are NOT PRESENT when I run the editor. Here is an image showing what the Mission Editor looks like for me [click the link]:

http://techvideoreview.com/FlightSimMovies/AcesHigh/Ah2Missions/MissionEditor/MissionEditorFrameMaximized00.JPG

I've tried every trick known to mankind to scroll lower or to access any items in the lower-right corner area as you illustrated them, but nothing causes their display on my computer.  :furious

Because I never saw the "View Selected" button to which you refer, I was attempting to use the "Display Selected Route" drop-down menu item associated with routes. It was the best match I could see compared with the instructions.

I don't know why I can't see the "View Selected" button. Perhaps your display is bigger than mine? I run at 1280x1024 resolution.

Anyway, thanks for clearing that up for me. Maybe someday I'll figure out why those two buttons are never visible to me and then I'll be able to see all of the flights and routes when running the mission...   :headscratch:

In the meantime, I get by as I always have....

 wow. that is REALLY bad, you mean that happens to every version of the ME that you have? I think you should report your bug to HTC.. this REALLY wasnt suppose to happen. and if it was the resolution it would happen to any program that you use rigth? actually you wouldnt see that corner with anything so I THINK that is not the problem, it looks like a really bad bug and you are a very bad lucky person ): and that is terrible since you make such epic missions and put so much hard work on them, I hope you figure out how to fix this! i will help as I can, keep us up to date!

Well, with the latest version of the Mission Editor (Version 2.22 Patch 3 from early March 2011), this problem has been fixed. The main window now resized automatically, adjusting to any reasonable resolution, and I now see the two buttons that were missing in all previous versions at my resolution of 1280x1024. Those two buttons are nice, and with them I can see the various flights while the Mission Editor is in "Run" mode as I stare at the big map.

Thanks!

It's better. I'm encouraged that they fixed it.

However, for reasons discussed extensively elsewhere, I don't use the current version of the Mission Editor and won't switch to it for mission development until it (in combination with the corresponding flightsim version) surpasses the old 2.12.4 version. That hasn't happened yet, but this latest improvement gives me hope!
