My Grandfather flew an F-5a Lightning (photo recon version of the P-38) for the Free French in the 1st Escadrille of GR/33 (the same squadron as Antoine de Saint Exupery.) My mother is French and lives in Paris and I lived there for a year when I was 13. I, therefore, have a connection with France and decided to join a French squadron. The only problem is I live in Boston and never fly when the French squads are awake. So I decided to create my own squadron, The Free French Air Force- I want to keep it general so we can fly as many planes as possible.
Thus far I have discovered Free French squadrons flying the following non-French planes: P-47, P-38, P-39, P-63, P-40, Hawk H-75, F4F, Spit, Hurricane, Typhoon, Yak (1, 3, and 9), B-26, B-24, B-25, A-20, Maryland, Baltimore, Blenheim, Halifax, Wellington, Mosquito. Any new information on this is welcome. I wish I could find info on French units flying the B-17 or Lancaster.
So if there are any American based Francophiles who wish to fly for the glory of France drop me a line. I don’t have a web page yet and I usually fly between the hours of midnight and 2am EST most nights. I’m a bit of a lone wolf who flies to live but I’m happy flying wing and want to do more scenario stuff as well. I would say the only real requirements for the squad are a not too serious attitude (we all suck but are learning to suck a little less) and a mature disposition regarding the open channel (I always squelch it because of the pathetic childishness consistently displayed and I don’t want this squad even remotely linked to that.)
Sound interesting?
