Coral Sea is one of my favorites.  It is perhaps the most-realistic scenario.

Some pictorials of the last one:

Most likely, it's one of the more popular ones, and a personal favorite.

When they run Coral Sea again, I'll play to see how it should be done properly  ;)

Roc and Brooke know what I mean  :D

I'm the worst pilot ingame ya know!!!

It's all unrealistic crap requested by people who want pie in the sky actions performed without an understanding of how things work and who can't grasp reality.

Nice site...too bad the Devastator isn't modeled...kinda give the Allied an advantage...not that I have a problem with that... :lol

It really isn't that much of an advantage. There were only 2 TBM squads, the rest were SBD. The TBMs were only for torpedo use.

Still, even so when I was flying as A6M2 I ran across a number of the tough old birds and still managed a few kills. They can be shot down :)

I would guess that the TBM is a lot better than the TBD.  A TBM can certainly get shot down by Zeros, but for the most part only during its torpedo run.  It handles better at high speeds than the Zero does, so if you have some alt and are alert, a Zero isn't going to get you until you are on the deck.

On the B5N side, if only it had forward-firing guns and a hint more durability, it would be an immensely better airplane.

Oh, I'm not disagreeing that plane for plane the TBM is superior. I guess I should have said "from a scenario team-balance-standpoint, there wasn't much of an allied advantage" (in my opinion, of course)

EDIT: It's not as if every allied bomber was a TBM. I just wanted to put that out there because your pictoral is somewhat TBM heavy :D

Heh!  Indeed. :)

I love flying torpedo bombers in Coral Sea, even the B5N.

I think the TBM isn't too bad in the role of a TBD.  It's not so unbalancing that it ruins things, and it's certainly the best choice for the role.  Also, in both runs of Coral Sea, the Japanese side did manage to win some frames.

Coral Sea had B25s as scout planes... :cry....I still have nightmares of the lone B25 among our group of Kates.  After suffering 2 losses, a brave warrior of the sun used his Kate to ram him, sending both to become apart of the coral reefs below.   :salute

Time's fun when you're having flies.

Hmm...that's interesting...the carriers would have definitely used SBD's as scouts...each carrier would have had 2 SBD squadrons...one designated "VB" one designated "VS"...perhaps B-25's would work because the battle took place close to land bases. Gotta remember too: service rivalry was huge in the '40's the Army and Navy often worked alone sometime to the point of being a bigger detrament to each other than the enemy...politics ya know...I know I'm rambling but it's fun to discuss these issues with like minded people... :aok
