situational awareness mission
« on: March 10, 2011, 12:25:14 AM »
i was just wondering if we could get a mission that had a flight of maybe 4 planes that get jumped by about 30 aircraft. i have flown some of the dogfight missions but all they have is even number aircraft. i want to be HEAVILY outnumbered, this would simulate alot of the hordes that we encounter in the MA. plus can we be allowed to pick our planes in the flight of 4?

I am currently working on a mission that evolves 3 waves of german attacks to british bases. there is a suprise on the middle of the mission that could be what you are looking for. but it is a long mission with a storyline, i believe what you are really looking for is a great number of bandits rigth? and about beeing able to choose your fligths you can get one mission already built and change it on the ME wich lets you choose the loadout aswell.
about my mission. it will take a while to finish, a long time actually. sorry about that, just want to make it perfect.

have you tired ranger's "attrition" mission? you can delete some fligths in the ME too.

I think I may have tried it, its been awhile. Yeah I was looking was something with just overwhelming odds against a few planes, or maybe even just one plane in a scenario of being separated from the rest of the flight and being attacked by a horde of planes. Preferable enough planes to where you dont have enough ammo to take them all down, but you have to engage and use your wits to win or escape. I maybe asking to much from a limited resource such as ME but it would be a fun thing to try and simulate.

it is really interesting and i think ill give it a shot as my next project but how many planes in a VS 1 scale? i mean how many bad guys for each good guy? I had a scenario in mind two days ago where one pilot has got himself in trouble and you need to go there and make sure he stays alive like a rescue and escort him back home.

I was thinking in astronomical odds, no less than 20 to 1 odds. Or maybe along the same idea, but i dont think we have this level of programing available, have it to where 1 plane is in the area and the horde attacks. You can get help by either killing X number of enemies or making it to a certain point a ways away from the fight, and I mean A LONG WAY from the fight. Basically in the MA we run into this situations where its often 14 to 1 or 200 to 1, just wanting something to where even the best pilots in here kinda question weather or not they make it out alive. Come one Raphael, push the limits!

actually this looks kinda easy and interesting to do. but know this: in this system that much of enemies against you could result in a bunch of friendly fire on the enemy side and also a lot of friendlyt kill since the AI in this version is REALLY lets say... not genius in dogfigths. also since this new version of AI like to figth low you could do easy 20 kills if you start with altitude advantage. ok ill not say easy but you could with patience. well lets give it a shot. I will take a break on my long project (my baby) to see if we could do this one quickly. name the planes you wish to use and to figth against. i will give you your reinforcments too. name the planes.

EDIT: Also, do you wish to put the figth in a scramble contest or just some horde that yoiu randomly intercepted while they were heading somewhere?

I would treat it like a random occurrence, like you are on patrol or something and then you get hit. You do have a point in the shooter killing by the enemies but I think it may work out, just have to try it. I wouldnt put a plane that is used alot in the MA, ie P51, F4U, 109, I would like to see our plane be an LA-7 because of its limited fuel and ammo but it has more than enough to put a hurt on the bad guys. Maybe put it up against the Zero? I want something that will make you think, no point in being in something that can out turn the enemy cuz it just becomes a big wagon wheel. And maybe set against a cloudy, gray overcast for lowered visibility? I know im trying to set the odds WAY against the one plane but what fun would it be if you knew you were going to win?

didnt add anything special is just a scratch take a look and tell me what you think.

Not bad Raph, I think we maybe onto something here. A few things to think about though:
1. The friendly aircraft show up a bit to soon, you want to sweat it out for awhile I would think. Maybe a delay in the friendly planes taking off so you have a several minute head start, like around 5? That way no help is in sight when the fight starts.
2. I like the idea of taking off, just need to have a point where when you cross it then you have them jump you. Having it start out as a normal mission with clear skies and then get hit would make you think of your opening moves.
3. The idea of being low and slow was really a nice touch seeing as how they were on me barely before I had wheels up, but we do have to at least give the good guy a bit of an even playing field I would think, (after all he is outnumbered).

I look forward to hearing your ideas for it, I think we can come up with something to even challenge the great aces of Aces High.    :salute

roger that! but could you explain the second one better? after all english isnt my first language and i got a bit confused there

EDIT: i guess what you are asking is to keep the take off and then after you are already in the air some zeros jump on you rigth? i dont think that would be possible on this engine but i do have an alternative idea for this.

OK just did a quick second version here and made one test looks ok but the AI still throw their planes into the ground and explode out of nowhere (i cant say much, i also crashed on that test xD). check the film out

as you can notice i think i got the "hit"part ok sort of.

and here is the download so you can give it a try yourself, im just working really calmly on this one so this is not the final result i need to slowly get what you really want here and make it possible. ok give it a try here

Thats right, maybe after a waypoint or something then have them come in and attack if possible. Also the friendlies, maybe have them take off from a distant airfield to give time for the furball to complete trap you? They would still be coming, it would just take awhile to get to you.

I was working on a mission similar to this some time back.  The problem that I noticed is that if you try and put to many cons on one plane, not all the cons will attack you.  It seems that the ones that don't attack will continue on whatever route you have for them, until you kill enough cons.  Then you have to be within range for the ones that flew by you, to engage you.

Here's a couple examples of what I mean:

Absolute Zero  <---Too many enemies in this mission, so they don't all engage.
ENDURANCE  <--This mission has more of a side balancing in place, but still lot's of action.

Both downloads are very small...
