What would be a good match between the 2 these days?

I currently have a 1TB HD, Geforce 450 GTS, and 1000w power supply.

I am also considering starting from scratch and building a new computer.

If its just the Motherboard and CPU im willing to spend $300 - $500. (not including RAM cost)

Setup for a new computer $2000 ballpark with all components.( not inculding exterior case items such as monitors, mouse, keyboard etc.)

if you're not doing anything but gaming and everyday mundane stuff on the system amd cpu with a mobo that has nvidia chipset on it...otherwise you would want an intel system.

for $1600 i could build a monster gaming system...$2000 would almost be a waste of money if you're building your own...

That comes to 1701.01 price and it runs great with triple monitors.

It means that in single GPU state (running a single card) it runs at full x16 speed (PCI-E x16) whereas running dual GPU (SLI or Crossfire) runs at x8 each.  The higher-end Motherboards typically run x16 in both single and Dual (SLI/Crossfire).

Also, what are you running in that thing that needs 1000watts?  I think I remember reading under-stressing a PSU is equally bad as over-stressing.  Think you want to run around 80% usage (not sure if that's max or normal) for best use, but I am still not sure I am remembering right.  If one of the better PSU gurus can chime in that's be best.

If you can wait for a bit, I would see how the new AMD "Bulldozer" architecture plays out before building a computer.  It's apparently supposed to be the next best thing in CPU's, and it's rumored to come out in June.

Not bad Checkers....except for the 10 pin PSU connector that means you need to buy the PSU from Dell or "an authorized Dell reseller". Wonder if you could gun it and drop in a new motherboard and PSU in that case though.
