Windows Update
« on: April 06, 2011, 03:40:06 AM »
I ran Windows Update yesterday for my PC.  It said there was an update for my video card from EVGA.  I went to their website & Nvidias' too, to see if there were any detail of this.
Neither of them had anything listed.  The last update from either of those site's, is from around 1/2011.  I have that display driver installed now.
Just wondered what this update could be.  Windows Update says it was published in 3/2011.  Should I just leave it alone?
It's about a 115MB download and I'm on dial-up.  If it's nothing I need, then I won't bother with it.

Thanks for any info.

Its probably the same driver just finally got through the Windows Update system. You just have to read the fine print on the Windows Update portion of the notes about that particular update to compare it to the driver version that you are using.

NEVER allow Microsoft Update to update video card drivers.  They do not clean out the old ones first which can lead to all manner of problems.

Yes if you look closely you should find the option to "hide" that update.  Skuzzy's right..  I've tried the windows update 'video driver' path in the past as well and it never went well.  I ended up manually uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers myself.  Same thing with sound drivers.  Oddly enough, network drivers never seem to be an issue though.

I sometimes think that the drivers that Microsoft supplies are often different than what the manufacturers have available on their websites.

Thanks gentlemen, that's what I wanted to hear.
That update is now hidden.
