CCC not opening
« on: April 09, 2011, 11:41:49 AM »
After a recent Microsoft update, all of the "fine tuning" controls in my ccc simply disapeared.

There would be only one screen (display detection etc.) that would appear.

No access to anything else at all.

Sooooooo, I uninstalled it and redownloaded and installed a new one from the ati site.

Now although it show up in my programs list, when I click on it all I get is a momentary flickering cursor.

It won't open at all. Not sure if I downloaded the right one or not, because the list of CCCs and drivers couldn't possibly be more confusing to me.

I went for the one that said 5870 windows7 64 bit.

From what little searching I've done online (at work right now) this seems to be a fairly common problem and I haven't seen any real solutions yet.

Never install the drivers suggested by Microsoft update, especially if you have manually installed already something. Most of the time it will pork your system because the update will contain a much older driver version.

Run the ATi uninstaller and remove everything. Download and install the current driver and CCC package.

yes...everything will still work...just make sure you download the driver package without installing it until after you get rid of the existing driver package already installed and reboot.

You're better off not using CCC, uninstall it and use ATI Tray Tools instead.

I would rather use nothing than the Catalyst Control Center.

And like others have said, NEVER allow the Microsoft updater to update a video card driver, unless you like eating a lot of frustration coated with a massive dose of anger.

Question on CCC: Can I still get access to eyefinity if I don't install the CCC? there used to be some 3rd part CCC alternative, but that was a while back, before eyefinity and monitor-spanning features.

Currently I have CCC installed. I don't really like it. Not sure if I go to Omega drivers or whatever, if they'll let me do the monitor setup, though.

Just curious. What about nHancer? And can you run it by itself? Is it better to just install the drivers to play AH?

Duh..I just noticed nHancer is for the nVidia cards almost 48 hrs after my post. But the question still applies. Can I install drivers only then use a third party app with less overhead and similar or better control over the graphics settings. I know that if you install drivers only, it will use default settings unless specified otherwise. The reason I ask is because I cannot longer run X-Plane 9.67 after I installed my new GTX 580. AH works just fine. I don't mean to hijack the thread... :o

Well being that this thread is about an ATI utility and you're asking an Nvidia question then maybe you will be better off starting a separate thread.  I'm not sure about Nvidia, but that definitely can be done with ATI.  I use ATI Tray Tools myself instead of CCC.

The hard part may be finding a third party application that can support that new of a card.

Down loaded the tray tools last night, has most of the stuff I lost on it.(I think)

However it is still not holding my "jagged edge removal" setting. When I re- start the computer, I have to redo the settings.

It did this with the ccc also.

You don't have to uninstall anything, I had the same problem and all I had to do was re-download the CCC and it worked fine.

Just got home from work and started the computer, got a message saying "ati tray tools cannot connect to low level drivers".

Yaaaaaaaaaaaay!!!

The icon that WAS in my hidden icons tray is also gone.

The tray tools still show under my programs list, so I created a desktop icon and opened it. "ati tray tools cannot connect to low level drivers".

Yaaaaaaaay.

There is an option to "install" low level drivers in the tray tool, but I"m not sure what low level drivers are.

Any ideas??  You'd figure that guys who create such wonderful video cards would be able to produce a "simple" configuration tool, but apparently you'd be figuring wrong.

Any help would be appreciated!!   Thanks for all the help guys!     Bobby G.

Using the "low level" drivers allow you to do stuff like overlclock on the driver level instead of the BIOS.
