First thing I noticed was MASSIVE graphics lag. I spawned and used .goto to join a squaddie. He was at a V-base. There were maybe 10 aircraft in the area and more GVs... However my FPS was in the toilet. 17fps or lower for a long time. It did eventually stabilize up at around 37 or so but it made it very difficult to fly and to GV. It was the stuttery kind of 30fps. I have noticed the following:
1) massive loss of FPS
2) tank commander's gunsight will not display most times. Flicks on once in a while then disappears.
3) flickering buildings in some cases (non destructibles)
4) odd blink on/off of shadows for trees. Not quite a flicker.
5) Noticed wireframe outline artifacts once or twice while rolling past bushes/trees.
6) Smoke shells in the distance would disappear then reappear randomly (like the old flame trail does on bombers)
Previous version ran fine. Had high res, had maxed details, etc... moving to ground vis and back to full vis made no difference in FPS lag. Drivers did not change since last patch, (er, since before 224 patch 0, I mean) After installing 2.24 patch 1, I installed high res pack, which I did not do for patch 0 (had not got around to it yet).
i7 960 3.2GHz
6GB tri-chan DDR3 1600
Revo x2 100GB SDD main drive (AH is installed here)
AMD HD 6970 2GB video card
running 1280x1024x32 at 60hz with vsync set to "always on"
Ran fine offline at least for patch 0 without high-res pack, but ALL settings were the same. I did not go in and remap anything, or set anything different between the prior AH version and 2.24p0 or between that and 2.24p1.
For the mouse bug: I noticed an oversight and have a suggested solution. I was recording film. It was boring. I stoped the recording as I came in to land, but found I had no mouse to click "cancel"! I could not tab to that key, nor could I cancel with the ESC key. I was forced to save the film just to clear my screen to land. I did not have mouse flight on, and could not bring up clipboard (ESC wasn't working) to restore mouse.
Suggestion: Use the mouse look ONLY on GVs. When mouse look is off, restore mouse cursor. I want my mouse so I can do these little necessary things that are ever so important, like clicking "cancel." It's also useful for gunnery in a tank, should you want to use the joystick. You would mark where you think the round lands, reposition gunsight for second shot, mark where previous round landed, etc.
