AH Crashing after a few minutes in game or in lobby
« on: April 29, 2011, 06:27:47 PM »
Hello,  Have a crashing issue under Win7 64Bit.  If I leave the game on the lobby screen it will crash after a few minutes, It will also crash if I enter the game launch a bomber and Enter a turret, I did manage to get a whole 15 minutes by never entering a turret but it eventually crashed as well.  Any assistance would be appreciated.

I never had a full crash in the latest 2 updates, until I joined the lobby. I had to search for a player to find what arena he was in. I tried to join an arena after about 1-2 minutes and totally crashed with the error dialog.

However if I don't go to lobby (I almost never do) I get straight into the game without error.

I get the exact same thing as krusty, go to the lobby first then go to an arena, get a windows error dialog.  Go to an arena first no worries.  This is on Win7 64 bit.
We have clearance, Clarence. Roger, Roger. What's our vector, Victor?

Same issue for me.

Go to lobby.....look for squaddies/buddies.....enter an arena and AH.EXE stops working.

Also happens when I transition between arenas say TA to LW Orange or blue.

Running Vista 64 ultimate.

Completed a wipe of my computer and a fresh install of vista and patches.......only thing running on the PC is VISTA and AH.exe.

I should add I'm running Win7 x64. Seems to be a common issue on 64-bit, at least?

I can see one problem.  You do not have the native sound drivers installed on that computer.  It is using the default supplied Microsoft driver which has quite a few bugs in it.

It's strange that I have no problems going straight in, and that the crash only happened after going to the lobby.

Does the lobby do anything sound-wise that might interfere with the normal steps?

If not, I don't see (off the top of it) how that would be related. Then again, stranger things have happened.

I'm getting same stuff. I just purchased an ASUS GS73-XT1 w/win7 64bit & nvidia GTX460. Its weird, my puter will just restart itself. No error message no nothing. It has awesome cooling and I even have a cooling pad (its a laptop). Its never hot and its slighty warm. I tuned down the native video settings and it seems to like that (so far). All of the drivers have been updated...who knos. I played the update on my old laptop with ATI vid card and it hasnt flinched. Ill screw around with the win defaut sound deal and see how it goes. Thank god for a 2 yr warranty. I really hope I dont have to send it in (pain in rear). I do have a big rockin desktop but its a pain to move around the house and I wanted a gaming laptop, just because.

There very well could be an error in the lobby, but I cannot say for sure.  Might want to post specifics in the bug forum.

I was just noting the person who posted the DXDIAG was not using native sound card drivers which can and usually will cause all types of stability problems.

Skuzzy,

What would help to determine if there is a bug when swapping from lobby or other arenas?

Let me know and I will try to help.

Not the most experienced with OS's but did a fresh install this weekend and noticed the problem when swapping arenas.  Prior to this install (ah.exe crashing was in when swapping arenas), if I stay in one arena it runs well.

:)

Also happened to me just now after a couple hours of steady flying in the MA. Lots of vox going on, could also have been sound related. Got a total lockup. When I hit CTRL ALT DEL to get task manager up it had the "close program" dialog already up but didn't display it (hence why my screen locked up, it was stuck on last frame in memory)

Thank You Skuzzy,  Loaded the Sound drivers and same thing,  I have been messing with settings and find it will not crash any longer if I actually log in and play immediately, it will simply crash if I leave the software idle for longer than 1 minute in any lobby.  I have 2 seperate internet connections from two different providers, 1 Is cellular based and provides 2Mbit and the other is 512Kbit on something called the Inuktuk network up here both connections up untill 2 weeks ago worked just fine and there is no difference when I move between them.
