Now I know how the threads wonder.  It had nothing to do with German heavy bombers.  It is about HE-111, Do-17 and let me add D0-217 and Ju-188

We definately need the Do-17.  It was the most significant bomber of WWII.  It not only fought in the BoB it also bombed Pearl Harbor. :bolt:

Well not to defy the fact that the Do-17 bomber Pearl but the. b-17 was the most important bomber. And the PBY was most important Patrol Bomber of the war so we should get that next.
Hell ya +1 PBY!  :noid

"Most important bomber" of WWII can be argued pretty effectively for the B-24, B-29 and Lancaster as well, DemonFox.  The B-17 does not have an automatic win on that category.

Yes, we have all of those in AH as well.

Fairly sure that if you as any aircraft historians they will say the B-17 is more important then any of those bomber. I respect you and what you say but I have to say that the B-17 is most important.
But that's beyond any point that I really care about because all I want is the PBY-5A  :bhead

I have to say that the B-17 is most important american bomber.

Fixed. It's close-minded to think the B-17 is the most important bomber of the war, when Halifaxes and Wellingtons made up the bulk of the allied bomber fleet for half the war. They still had Wellingtons flying in 1000-plane missions in 1944, as commented by at least 1 Luftwaffe pilot making note "many were the older types, Wellingtons and so forth" [paraphrase]

Also, the G4M betty may well be the most important, with its roles all over the CBI, the PTO, and anywhere the Japanese operated. Or you might say the Lancaster was the shining light for the RAF Bomber command, and was the iconic and quintessential bomber of the war. Or you might say the Ju-88 served in far greater capacity and in a far wider variety of roles and in greater levels of evolution than the B-17 ever did.

So please keep in mind the U.S.A. wasn't the only country in the war, and we only joined it halfway through.

P.S. Foget the blasted PBY. It's a POS with fabric covered wings and no redeeming values. It has no place in AH and no role in AH's gameplay.

these two should be definantly added

Halifax Bomber: numbers built 6175 aircraft from 1940 to 1945 and served with 7 airforces in the war. and they werent just bombers they were also transports for supplies, and agents and glider tugs.

Wellington Bomber: produced 1936–1945, Number built 11,464 served with 3 airforces and the fleet air arm

these two should be brought in.

The thing that stands against the Halifax is the fact that in performance and capability the Lancaster is so extremely similar that the work needed to add a four engine bomber seems excessive.  The Lancaster -> Halifax substitution is about as close as can be had in WWII.

I do think we need a Wellington though, my preference being the Mk III.
